The voice of the summer traveling in the car as a young lad. For any younger person who has never heard his voice I recommend you get on YouTube. He was go good it was it uncommon for people to mute the tv and have Mícheál on radio. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11409 - 25/06/2024 12:59:05 2554725 Link 3 |
Grew up listening to his commentary on the radio, at a time when matches weren't broadcast on the TV. Even people who had no interest in GAA matches would stop to listen to him. In my opinion, one of the greatest sports commentators anywhere in the world and in any sport. His commentary was pure magic. May he rest in peace. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2024 - 25/06/2024 13:03:47 2554728 Link 2 |
R.I.P Micheál. With Micheál O'Hehir you helped to give us our love of Gaelic Games. Listening to the both of ye, we could almost smell the newly mown grass in Thurles, Clones, Castlebar or Tullamore on Sundays that seemed sunbaked even it it was raining. Heaven now has the commentary dream team. ORIELMAN85 (Monaghan) - Posts: 387 - 25/06/2024 13:10:03 2554730 Link 1 |

i never knew he was as old as he was, he had a great life and one of the greats in GAA who will be sadly missed. When you think the changes he witnessed in the gaa and the country as a whole it's frightening. meath1987 (Meath) - Posts: 134 - 25/06/2024 13:13:15 2554735 Link 0 |

Very sad, the end of an era. A wonderful poet with the microphone, he painted pictures in your head if you couldn't see the game. A man who treated the island as one and the Irish people, North & South, as one. A statue outside Croke Park would be a fitting tribute. Deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his family and friends. May he Rest In Peace. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9785 - 25/06/2024 13:17:58 2554737 Link 1 |
