I think most of his best hurling this year was corner forward for Cloughbawn. A couple of other players impressed me Josh Sheil at midfield for the harriers think he's worth a try in the league . Jack Redmond has looked good for Rathnure and Cormac Walsh has been the Alleys main man any day ive seen them

Maybe they should have just let Monageer win the hurling, and then they wouldn't be in this situation :) But seriously, not a bad "problem" to have - to win two county finals and therefore have two Leinster championships ahead of you. What do you propose should have been done differently? Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2596 - 05/11/2024 11:27:36 2578441 Link 0 |
Play the junior hurling on a Tuesday night instead of senior football

Yes, but the next round of that hurling championship is on Saturday 16th November - i.e. if you put the first game back to the Tuesday night, the winners would have only three days off before playing again. Next round of the senior football championship is not until the weekend of 23rd/24th November, so even putting Castletown's first match back to Tuesday still gives the winners ten or eleven days off. By the way, Wexford had a bye in the first round of the Leinster Senior Football Club Championship this year. If we'd had to play a first round match like most other counties did, they were fixed for last Sunday. With Castletown/Liam Mellows being in a hurling final that day, the Leinster football match would have been put back a few days, and they'd have been playing either tonight (Tuesday) or tomorrow night. It was a very disappointing final alright and really you would struggle to pick out a really good game over the course of a championship that has no shortage of games. The Annes find themselves in the familiar position of being very competitive but only to a certain level. They never looked like winning the final and that has happenned in a number of county finals at this stage. They also sacrificed the football more or less completely this year so getting to another final and being fairly comfortably beaten wont be much of a consolation to them. The Martins are a team that have the abilities to do well in Leinster, in reality winning one game would be progress with how the last few years have gone for Wexford teams. As has been pointed out Naas will be difficult opponents especially away from home. They have a few years experience at provinicial level now and that is very important. The Leintster championship is wide open, the only club left in it who have a Leinster championship are Kilcormac Kiloughey as far as I know. Qt Finals 1 Na Fianna (DB) v Clough Ballacolla (LS) 17.11.24 Parnell Park 3.00pm 2 Naas (KE) v St Martins (WX) 17.11.24 St Conleths Park, Newbridge 2.00pm 3 Castletown Geoghegan (WH) v Thomastown (KK) 17.11.24 TEG Cusack Park 1.30pm 4 St Mullins (CW) v Kilcormac Killoughey (OY 17.11.24 Netwatch Cullen Park 2.30pm All teams left in it will realise its a brilliant opportunity to go and achieve something special for their club. True. Although Clough-Ballacolla, St Mullins and Na Fianna have reached 3 of the last 4 Leinster club finals. Something for anyone down here who still feels we are superior to think about.

He's been a forward since he could walk. Not sure he has the engine for midfield. And only a little Clareman would have reasoned he was a back!

He's extremely athletic (when fit) . I think he lacks the physicality to win primary possession as an intercounty forward which is a problem we really need to solve. Chinner won't be there forever. Oisin Foley is a must for me, conal Clancy possibly, Jacko (I know there are mixed views about that), Mac, and I'm struggling to think of others. I'm hoping shamey o Hagan develops in that style. Shamey wasn't even playing in the forwards for the Alley this year Doyler. Conall's athletic for sure, but by engine I mean the type of lad to run for 80 minutes non stop. He never came across as that sort of lad, either underage or adult. And along with bite, winning dirty ball, it would be the next main requisite for a modern midfielder. Cathal Malone springs to mind. Jamie Barron also. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 13721 - 06/11/2024 09:33:59 2578547 Link 0 |
Is it true that Jack Guiney is home for the weekend . Heard he was training last night murt1982 (Wexford) - Posts: 12 - 06/11/2024 10:02:31 2578552 Link 0 |
Very unfair on lads who have trained since January/February if he comes in for game time at the weekend

In understand that about shamey but my point is he can be developed as a ball winning forward for Wexford based on his attributes, the same as we did with Chin who was a centre back for quite some time. Maybe you're right about flood, I'd just like to see him involved but don't think he's the type of forward we really need right now. What's the story with Ian Carty? Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3116 - 06/11/2024 12:38:50 2578574 Link 0 |
Not sure Ian will be back til next year tbh. Big loss. We need intercounty standard halfbacks badly. If Ian and Paudie Foley aren't there that leaves just Patsy as a fringe player and Matthew as a proper halfback apart from Damien Reck. No real competition or cover, unless Conor Devitt improves. I'm not sure Darragh Carley is good enough especially as regards heads up hurling, and I'm 100% sure that Charlie and Simon aren't good enough that way to play wingback. And all of Devitt, Mcguckin, Dooley and Carley probably aren't big enough either.

Forget about Jacko...his time has long since come and gone. Conal Flood the same, his time for getting conditioned to play county hurling was 4 or 5 years ago. Nice ball player at club level but his ship has sailed too. We have lots of samey players when you look through the panel list. Pace lifted in the games that mattered v KK and Clare last year and we couldn't win a contested ball from midfield up. Until that changes we will continue to be an also ran at the top level. Harsh I think. Neither of them are even 30. They could have 2/3 good years if they looked after themselves and we aren't exactly churning out top quality forwards

He will be back for championship next year

Flood is only 26. Jacko is 29. Not sure about Jacko being a top level intercounty championship starter on a team with designs on winning an AI. Flood would need to get stronger, and get a good run at a League campaign, as it is he hasnt shown that step up yet either. They both have the hurling, but neither have been consistently good at intercounty level so far.

Now that the hurling championship is over, I had said I wouldnt comment one way or the other on the new structure until it was completed. Looking back, I would tend to agree with a few others that when you finish bottom of the league, you should be in a relegation final. I do like the extra round and that there is an incentive to finish the top 2 but definitely if you finish bottom after 5 games, you shouldnt be still in the championship. So I hope they keep some elements of the championship incentivizing top 2, be interesting to see if there will be any changes. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 443 - 08/11/2024 09:04:23 2578889 Link 0 |
