Is Barry O'Connor definitely going back to Australia? ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 350 - 03/11/2024 19:17:48 2578195 Link 0 |
Any lads outside or on fringes of county panel shine with their clubs this year? Timbertony (Wexford) - Posts: 296 - 03/11/2024 20:53:35 2578217 Link 0 |
Agree on the goal but probably should have been a free out. Rory struck the keepers arm with his hurl.

Don't think annes would have won if they were more confident or pushed forward more if anything they would have struggled as I feel martins would ve opened them up . With the pace , running and scoring ability . Dee sat back after first 10 min and annes came good but pushed out that bit further near end first half and narrins prob won the game in 10 min burst before half time . Forcing mistakes and turnovers with the workrate . Goal was bit dubious and came at crucial tone but stilll feel annes never looked like winning he fame Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 299 - 03/11/2024 23:05:43 2578243 Link 0 |
It was a tame county final overall, St. Martins largely in control throughout but St. Annes never went away. Rory was by a street the best player on the pitch. I thought the referee was too whistle happy and never let play develop at all. The goal was a free out but I think St. Martins would still have won. St. Annes needed a goal they never got it though. Personally as a neutral I thought it was a shocking final that was devoid of any atmosphere or inspiration .. The Annes were little too negative and therefore struggled to get any great momentum or scores .. The goal killed them .. That said the Martins surprised me with the workrate and their hassling and were full value for the victory .. They have a tricky day out against Naas now .. Naas are a very decent outfit and have some super forwards. MyOhMi (Wexford) - Posts: 153 - 04/11/2024 09:26:50 2578275 Link 0 |
Fethard might have beaten the Jimmies though? As regards the upcoming game for the Martins against Naas I really hope the Martins lads had a good night celebrating last night, and are back in training tomorrow or Wednesday. Naas have a very good side. I did say to the friend I'll be watching the game with, who hurled for Naas and Kildare back in the day, that I'd have Naas as favourites. He reckoned not and that I was winding him up, which I was kinda!, but anyone in Wexford who thinks our champions just have to turn up to win the game will be in for a shock if the Martins lads aren't 100% focused. And the game will be close if the Martins hurl their best. Deep into injury time Na Fianna of Dublin were only leading Naas by 1 point in last years Leinster semi final. Naas beat Camross from Laois in the quarter final. Na Fianna only lost the Leinster Final by a point to OLG after that. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 13721 - 04/11/2024 11:56:10 2578302 Link 0 |
I'd have zero expectations in Leinster to be honest. We haven't had anyone really at it since Oulart in their prime. Having said that if I were to hand pick a team that I thought had the best chance it would be Martin's. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3116 - 04/11/2024 12:36:08 2578312 Link 0 |
St Martins are worthy champions. The game lacked any real excitment. Strangley the crowd were very quiet and athmosphere was almost non existant. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 383 - 04/11/2024 13:05:40 2578318 Link 0 |
On a off topic note, I see Wexford GAA are to receive 3.5 mil towards the next phase of the wexford centre of excellence so more dressing rooms, floodlight 4g pitch small stand. If you get a chance, have a look at the plans, they are very impressive. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 443 - 04/11/2024 13:13:21 2578320 Link 0 |
Conall Clancy really impressed me any day I seen him hurl for the Harriers. Would love to see Oisin Foley back with the county team next year too

You are up against clubs who dominate in their county. We haven't had a club dominate here since that Oulart team.

Clancy is the makings of the complete player and has a great attitude. He was in the Walsh cup panel last year but cut. He just needs to tidy up his shooting. Oisin is still involved he just didn't recover from a fairly serious shoulder injury quickly enough. I assume it's a given he'll be involved next year. We need more lads who can win clean ball and he's excellent at it Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3116 - 04/11/2024 15:12:54 2578342 Link 0 |
Cathal Doyle did very well for Taghmon playing in a team playing poorly in the few minutes he played. Was carrying an ankle injury but scored well from play in the 1st halves of both our last 2 games. 4 in the 1st half of 1 and 5 in the first half of the other I think. Justin Moran for the Annes. Andrew did OK too. Mark Byrne did better at midfield for Crossabeg than I thought he would. Jack Redmond has been doing well for Rathnure but I haven't seen them yet this year. Clancy always had the ability anyway, seems to have filled out a bit too? Oisin Foley is a good player for sure and a cert for the 26 if fit.

At least they have every opportunity to be competitive anyway, unlike the senior football champions, who travel away to Moorefield in the JHC on Saturday, and then turn around to play St.Loman's away the following Tuesday evening. Absolutely ridiculous.

Was a groin injury with Foley. Clancy looked good ok, busy for a biggish lad. Last time I saw him for Wexford was a challenge game against Waterford he didn't do too badly. Flood looked good for Cloughbawn when he played, hopefully all the gym work he's doing for the knee will help him get stronger all round. Cathal Parker looked tidy for Horeswood.

Sorry Viking you're right. The shoulder was actually the previous year. I think flood has to be involved (admittedly biased) but I don't think we have 26 hurlers that are better than him. Not as a back though. I would think midfield is his best position for inter county. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3116 - 05/11/2024 07:57:03 2578420 Link 0 |
