Aidan Rochford and Finn Ryan were probably our two best players yesterday. I think we're in with a chance in the final but we'll need to be firing on absolutely all cylinders and can't afford to be hitting wides like we did in the first half, the lack of a goal threat is worrying also, don't think we've forced the Rapps or Shels keeper to make a save in either game…Brian Kavanagh will be a huge loss as he has really upped his game this year. If that's what you think that's fine. I disagree for two reasons, 1. Mogie pulled Simon Donohue all over the place and drew fouls the whole time. 2. Dee got on a massive amount of ball by anticipating the play when shells revival was on he had some key interceptions and never panicked. It's not ridiculous to say the county lads are ahead, it's been the case all year. Don't get me wrong, Aidan is a great player, that's just my view of what I saw yesterday. Incidentally what age is he? I know Davy had him in for the league but didn't work out. He must be 33 or so is he?

Yeah he would be 33, cant see him committing to it again.

Why not? Playing county semi finals in a wind tunnel is ridiculous, not exactly showing clubs or players involved much respect. This storm was well flagged for Sunday so surely the games could have been re-scheduled for Saturday.

Anyone know what controversy happened in the Monageer and Clongeen semi final? Wexford people had a link on line about the game and mentioned something that happened but couldn't ready anymore. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 443 - 21/10/2024 15:01:13 2576183 Link 0 |
Clongeen scored a point - umpire flagged it as wide but the linesman called ref and told him it was over - ref went with his umpires and point wasn't given... big call in a game that went down to the wire... Clongeen went for a goal at the very end instead of handy point as were 2 points down instead of 1....

Clongeen got a point to draw the game as time was up, it was waved wide by the umpire but the lineman called the ref to inform him it was over. He went in to discuss with the umpire but didn't change his mind. According to the paper it was clearly over the bar.

To add to this, I think the scoreboard had to be corrected a couple of times throughout the game. You'd think with all that is going on at the minute in relation to the fethard and bunclody game they would make sure that someone capable is looking after the scoreboard.

Martins and Anne's deserving winners on the day. Wind was awful Martins very clinical though racked up enough to have game over at HT. Anne's kind of held on in the end Shels missed plenty of chances to at least level it. Martins work rate was very impressive. Forwards ran for everything and no lost cause. They swarmed the breaks from the puck outs and had at least 4 men in the rucks to win the breaking ball. Anne's will relish playing them all the same. If the games were going to be on Saturday where would you have them, bearing in mind Saturday late afternoon was forecast to be wet and windy? Originally the storm was supposed to be blowing over by Sunday lunchtime. I was checking every day on account of a motorbike run. It was only said that Sunday afternoon was going to be windy on Friday, but it was only a yellow warning for wind right up until and including Sunday morning. It was never raised above a yellow warning. It was flagged up before the vote was taken ending the split season that the hurling knockouts would be subject to poorer weather and pitches. It's not surprising, not rocket science, just common sense. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 13721 - 21/10/2024 17:47:48 2576235 Link 0 |
At least the scoreboard was corrected. Credit where it's due.

I was at the match and was positioned where the linesman was. It could not have been a more obvious point. The linesman came under no pressure to call referee, he was sure it was a point too. Linesman was acting as Hawkeye as he had best view, he didn't have to summons James Owens. No doubt the goal attempt would have been a handy point to draw the match. Overall a shocking decision

Again....spoken like somebody with absolutely no idea of what's involved in the running of games, especially at Wexford Park. Do I need to spell it all out for you? - Stewards. - Gate people. - Car park attendants. - Match officials. - The professional security firm they've had there lately. - Resetting the ticketing system. - No doubt dealing with demands from people saying 'I bought a ticket for Sunday but I can't go on Saturday, how do I get a refund?' - Clubs saying 'Tommy is working on Saturday, he could have gotten it off if he'd known sooner, but it's too late for him now'. I could go on. It was Friday before the Status Yellow wind warning for Sunday was issued. All those arrangements would already have been in place for Sunday. How easy do you think it would have been to re-arrange them all in time for the matches to start at 2 p.m. Saturday instead? Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2596 - 21/10/2024 21:14:11 2576255 Link 0 |

Well video evidence can now be used following the Fethard Bunclody ruling

Yeah it's just for a handful of teams and messes up the club Championships

Was at the Clongeen game. It was a clear point, the linesman was correct to seek Owens to change it, but I dont know why the umpire was so stubborn not to listen to calls of someone who had a better view than he. It's a disappointing one to take, Clongeen going for their third promotion in a row. Granted, it maybe a step too far and riding a crest of a wave, but still, it's hard to take when it's so close. After what happened in the Bunclody Fethard game, it's baffling as to how many times the score was put up wrong on the scoreboard this week. james2011 (Wexford) - Posts: 615 - 21/10/2024 22:24:27 2576266 Link 0 |
No it can't. I've explained this already. They're two different things. The Fethard v Bunclody match is a case where it's believed the referee didn't properly record the scores he awarded. Clongeen v Monageer would be a case of where the referee properly recorded the decisions he made, even if one or more of those decisions was incorrect. He may have been wrong in not awarding that last "point", but if the score he declares in his report matches the number of scores he awarded on the day, then there's no comeback from that. The net result may seem the same, but honestly, they're two very different things. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2596 - 21/10/2024 23:01:01 2576277 Link 0 |
The referee on the day didn't allow the point. That can't be overturned on video evidence.
