We could have 3 suspended alone from the last 3 round of hurling for incidents- and they all ref senior games.

Speaking from my own experience which changed between when I started and when I finished for the moment.
I absolutely HATED playing u21 in November and December. It is a terrible time for hurling, the pitches are boggy and slow and games are inevitably more physical and the ball moves horribly slowly.
But I looked forward to going back training in January, after a good Christmas just getting back training was good.
Post-covid, there was no point starting training until around St. Patrick's Day or Easter truth be told. I think this was a shame as it meant those first 3 months of the year were wasted to GAA.
For a couple of years I played soccer in Dublin, that filled the gap but to me it was just filler really. It was a good laugh.

So my preference would be for it to be wrapped up by Halloween and get a break from it until after Christmas. But someone said above that a 4G pitch in the county could help play games year round and the difference between playing hurling on a 4G pitch in November and December and even up to Easter would appeal to me I think anyway. The weather is academic really if the sod is good and the ball not stuck on a hole. There is no fun in winter hurling unless you are a hatchet man.

Replying To Timbertony:  "Surely the game will have to be replayed at a minimum but I'm struggling to think of a similar precedent. The infamous Meath v Louth Leinster final springs to mind but that was a technical foul for the goal, referee admitted his error afterwards that time but still no replay (not sure Meath have had much luck since!). Can anyone think of a similar situation? If Fethard had refused to play the penalties, they would have been awarded the game afterwards. By going ahead with the penalties it throws a bit of doubt on it but id be stunned if a replay wasn't ordered.

Ignore the scoreboard issues, surely the referee is meant to have an umpire and linesman (perhaps both?) also taking score anyway ? 0-7 to 1-3, like how is it possible to get that extra time score wrong. There's so many mistakes here it's unbelievable."
They need a new red flag now for the football.........

Ah, the old chestnut about U21. As I've stated before, it's a problem grade, no matter what you do.

- Can't play it in the early part of the year due to how clubs would be without their county players.
- Play it midweek in the summer, alongside the adult championships, and adult team managers aren't happy.
- Leave it until the adult championships are finished, and there are complaints about "leaving lads sitting around all year, and then making them play in these conditions"
- Do like the last couple of years, with the early rounds midweek in summer and then finishing it after the adult championships, and you get the worst of both worlds.

Even a 4G pitch for matches wouldn't solve everything. Firstly, if there was only one - and there's unlikely to ever be a stack of them, any time soon anyway! - then there might have to be six or eight matches on it a day. You could have a throw-in time of 9 a.m. on a frosty November or December morning for the first of them.

Secondly, you'd still be training on an ordinary pitch with floodlights during the week for those matches. So playing on soggy wet ground for training, and then a completely different surface for a match a few days later.

I see the Annes Rapps game has been postponed again. Annes cant be too happy, 7 weeks without a game and Rapps have now had over 2 weeks rest. Where's the advantage there of doing well in the group stages?

Where are you hearing that from?

Nothing on Wexford GAA Facebook or Twitter about it. And the fixture is still listed on the website, and tickets are still listed for sale.

Typo on the Wexford X account......should say Saturday 10th October and not "Monday" 10th October

Yeah, that looks like a straightforward error or oversight to me, probably when whoever was doing it was updating that graphic from when it was done up for last Monday night. It says Monday October 12th at 4 p.m., and even if the match was put back to Monday (which is actually the 14th), it would hardly be at 4 p.m. anyway.

Funny how the graphic in the corresponding post on Facebook says Saturday the 12th.

It's a good metaphor for what's going on at the minute with Wexford GAA..............

Kilanerin's minors playing in the same final, their lady footballers are in their first ever senior final at 4, and their junior men's have a derby semi-final with Castletown at 4.30 (which would draw a decent crowd as a standalone fixture anyway).

Crazy day and not one bit envious of the fixtures committee.

Has been a rough week or two for them all right!

In fairness though, should be remembered that bit like with referees, the CCC and the management committee of the County Board are made up of volunteers. Anyone who thinks they know better or could do better have an opportunity every year to put themselves forward for one of those positions, so that things can be done "right".

Don't know if I'd take one of those jobs myself if I was asked, and that's why I try not to be too critical of the people who actually do the jobs.

You said it Pikeman96.
All these positions are volunteers. A bit like refereeing, they are 100% thankless jobs and you never hear about the 99.9% of the decisions they get right, its always the one they get wrong and some armchair Twitter expert starts slating them.
I would never get involved in any of those jobs even at club level. I have never said no to getting involved with coaching and managing teams where I can as my children get good value out of the club. But I would never take any admin role in the club because inevitably you get criticism from the "know it all" who is always "too busy" to take any job.
I doubt anybody in Wexford Park intended for the floodlights to fail. But things happen. Simple as. Its not always as easy as everybody makes out.
If you want to complain, put your hand up at the AGM this year and say "I can do better" and off you go, show us all how its done.

Absolutely. Any proposals I've made, as regards captains allowed to talk to refs during the game, and managers afterwards, were purely aimed at reducing the abuse refs have to suffer from players and mentors. Heffernan was excellent this evening, talked to the players, explained his decisions.

Annes won today without getting out of first gear. Really sharp performance after such a long lay off.

Fixtures work well during the summer as all teams have their set days, but when it gets to the business end of the season everything has to be either a Saturday or Sunday as we're into the dark evenings.

On a serious note will it come to a stage when people just won't take these positions or especially good people. I think that our current co board is probably the most progressive we ever had but I've never seen as much rubbish on social media. Maybe it's just how society is now and everything is an issue for someone. I went to the park yesterday for the two seniors games and the first thing I'd say is that the stadium looks great. Think back 5 years and we had a score board that would not work. I spoke to a lad from St Anne's who told me that the chairman met with MW Hire last week and insisted that a new generator be installed before Friday and it got done. The same lad reckons that the work being done on facilities has been incredible and I think the work been done on hurling development in particular will pay off in the future.

Recruiting county officials will be hard in the future but referees may be worse given what has happened in recent weeks. Justin Heffernan was very good yesterday to be fair. I saw a lad on social media complaining about no linesmen at the minor final yesterday and the same lad was in trouble with officials before. You could not make it up.
