So why do you come on a topic, that you say you have no interest in, and make a comment? There are plenty of topics on here that I have no interest in. Unlike you, I don't bother making sarky and stupid comments on them. Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2654 - 14/07/2024 23:38:51 2559155 Link 1 |

After the game I couldn't help but notice some players from both sides appeared to be very emotional, sobbing, literally in tears, they simply could not supress their post match emotions, albeit wonderful. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3051 - 15/07/2024 09:26:20 2559198 Link 0 |
Then you have some of our national players rooting for Spain while they themselves play for English clubs, the mind boggles.

Yes, the PL clubs are English, but only a third of the players in the PL are English.

Spain dominated most of the game, won all of their 7 matches and were probably the best team in the tournament. England had momentum when they equalised but sat back afterwards allowing Spain to pick it up again. Rallied again after falling behind with a late siege of the Spanish goal. Spain created most chances when they stepped it up second half despite losing Rodri at HT. Pickford kept them in it but could see the despair of his teammates as he launched so many clearances to the Spanish keeper, over the opposing end line and into touch. Spain are the last team you want to kick possession away to. Enjoyable tournament overall and an eventful second half to finish Curlew66 (Roscommon) - Posts: 577 - 15/07/2024 10:33:53 2559229 Link 1 |
Red Hugh O'Donnell was with the Spanish in the closing stages of that game. Ole! MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 999 - 15/07/2024 11:24:02 2559243 Link 1 |
If you listen to Reggae music do you have to cheer on Jamaica at the world cup too?

Apparently the Spanish have won 27 straight finals without loss, in euro clubs and country since 2001. Limerick hurlers, Dubs footballers, eat yere hearts out! I recall Bill O'Herlihy throwing out the term 'traditional bottlers' in relation to the Spanish, discussing possibly Irish prospects around 2002. Times change. Don't forget his "commander in chief" Hugh O' Neill.

I watched the COPA final between Argentina and Columbia. It was much more entertaining in spite of no goals until extra time. There were more chances and the teams go out to win in this competition. Not to just stop the other team and hope for a break. England only played when behind and if they had gone for it before that would have done better. Negative tactics. Spain by far the better team and a through reflection of that would be 4-1. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2867 - 15/07/2024 15:00:59 2559310 Link 0 |
Well, not without losses. . Atletico have lost 2 champions league finals, it just happens that both were to Real. So it's 27 straight finals involving Spanish teams with 27 wins. Still an incredible stat. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5194 - 15/07/2024 20:24:34 2559388 Link 0 |
No but if you listened to Jamaican musicians 10 months of the year and then proudly proclaimed your disdain for a team of Jamaican musicians every second summer you're not really making any sense. That's even before we get into the fact that a lot of ABE 's speak English and move to England for work and don't have any interest in their own culture, and the fact that despite us saying "well never hear the end of it if they win" we're still banging on about a goal that was scored 36 years ago. The difference being two thirds of the players in the premier league are non-English, 16 out of 20 managers are non-English and 16 out of twenty clubs are foreign owned. The main issue with the English national team is the ridiculous hype from the English media and the hooligan and loutish behaviour of their fans. We go on about that goal because we over achieved at that time in a sport that is not our main sport and we have only been at a handful of tournaments. Perhaps but the EPL has a far greater percentage of English players than any other league and is the most popular league in Ireland, including our own one ,and besides, Irish interest in the English game long predates the arrival of foreign players. Most of my family are die hard Liverpool fans dating back to the 70s and 80s, same goes for United I'm sure. As for the hype? We must be watching different sports outlets. English fans and the English media are often times very hard on the team, and quick to dismiss them. And as for your last point, if we're entitled to remenisce about a goal scored at the euros, the English are entitled to remenisce about winning the world cup. Simple as.
