Replying To ForeverBlue2:  "New rules in and some big scores put up but early days yet… caught the first half of Galway/Armagh and it was truly dreadful stuff…worse than the All Ireland Final if that's possible… The 50m penalty for questioning a referee's decision is ridiculous and will only lead to complete chaos especially at club level where biased officials will tend to hear one thing and not another…The solo and go seems a good idea but when the ref blows for a foul there should be a slight stop in play instead of the player just soloing on as if no foul was given… The refs whistle seems to stop the tackler but not the player in possession… that can't be right… all in all a decent start and time will tell if any real change in entertainment value will be seen when games become real important..!"
First half of Galway Armagh was dreadful alright. Second half was a different match I thought, more end to end. I think Galway will take a while to get this handpassing disease out of their system. Need to look up more to find space.

I thought I'd wait to see a competitive game before I made up my mind. There were a few positives.
1- More space in the attacking 3rd, even when you weren't able to move the ball quickly which isn't always possible in Football.
2- Less dissent to the referee, well actually none at all.
3- More attackers in attacking areas sooner when attacking, well it stands to reason as 3 were already there.
4- More excellent long range shooting. It was a real weakness of ours the last few years, even from 45s, but you could see our lads must've been practicing it like mad.
5- less congestion around the middle 3rd and
therefore more long kickouts.
6- More kicks out of defence into the opposing half, as there were players there to kick it to first time.
Couldn't really see any negatives tbh.

You were playing London… so all those points were or should have been relevant even under the old rules…. Don't get over excited yet

We aren't talking about the result, only the pattern of the game. Have a read of this write up on the last game I saw us play them in the Park-

Watching the Rossies play Down while I build a couple of wheels. Good open exciting game! At least Roscommon haven't spent 8 plus minutes to score a point yet anyway!!!

I'd be interested in seeing how these rules play out in the height of the championship but am positive enough towards them based on the game I was watching (Dublin v Mayo). I would be up for anything that gets rid of, as you call it, the handpassing disease.

Was wondering why the 2pt arc does not extend right to the end line, parallel with the sideline from the 20 metre line, surely scoring from out on the sidelines deserves 2 points as much as much as straight in front

Just cannot understand how the goalies are not restricted, it is ruining the game allowing them roam

Should there be a restriction on the goal keeper coming out past the large rectangle unless it's to compete for a ball?

No just pointing out to not get over excited about beating London in a Division 4 league game.. I doubt the rule changes had any effect on the margin of victory….

Completely agree. It looks ridiculous during matches watching goalkeepers playing deep in the opposition half. Doesn't add anything to the game

I agree yet ( some ) outfield players are restricted to staying in their own half… laughable stuff only the GAA dimwits could come up with…!

The post had nothing to do with beating London. This thread is about the FRC rule changes, not NFL results.

I was in Mullingar yesterday and some of the new rules are horrendous. There is zero excitement in watching a referee run with the ball up the pitch to award a tap over free. I'd also argue that the 50 yard punishment for dissent is far too harsh when it doesn't take into account the human element of it. If a player is abusive towards an official then it can be justified for such a big punishment but other refs may see it as dissent if you in any way question why a certain decision went against you.

I'm not a big fan of the goalkeeper coming out - and apart from Morgan (Tyrone)I haven't see much added value from this tactic. But its a call that management will have to take. it backfired badly on Roscommon yesterday and lead to a great goal on the break which was a joy to watch. So I think it definitely did add some entertainment anyway. Will wait for a few more rounds of league but from what I say this weekend overall impression of the impact of the rules is positive.
