Is A 65 Too Much Reward For A Sliotar Going Over The End Line?

(Oldest Posts First)

Just a thought that I feel is worth debating is a 65 too advantageous to the attacking team been thinking on this for a while and watching clare against Waterford spurred me to ask the question when you consider the ball just went out through a ruck which the Waterford defender wouldn't have known much about then subsequent 65 decides the game when you think how far players hit the sliotar now with hurls having a bigger bas and sliotar lighter than previous years a 65 to today's intercounty players is probably the equivalent to a 50 or 55 yard free to players 20 years ago would a sideline ball from 30 metres at whichever side of the posts ball went out be a fairer way to restart the game just a thought interested to hear others opinions

Defenders would deliberately put the ball over the end line if under pressure. I know I would have if I was on my left hand side back in the day, just make it look accidental.
Maybe an argument if the keeper makes a save it is too much reward but then players might stop going for a goal if they think a save will result in something other than a point.

I like that sideline "cut" idea - I imagine with time, "experts" will make it look easy too - so maybe set at a distance/angle where say, half are successful?

Yup, then Diarmaid Byrnes driving it over effortlessly from the "80" instead.

No because defenders would puck the ball over the end line the whole time when they're under pressure. It'd be like the back pass in soccer before 1994

I guess it's is fairer than nothing at all as happened us this year when the goalie saved a shot and put it over the end line.
