Luke Crowley has been starring for the Kerry hurlers and Kerry U20 footballers in recent weeks. The Kerry hurlers take on Offaly at 1pm on Sunday in a key battle to make the McDonagh final. The Kerry U20 footballers take on Tyrone at the exact same time in the All-Ireland U20 final. The young player has been put in the difficult position of having to choose. There should have been better scheduling. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8284 - 16/05/2024 11:32:07 2545070 Link 1 |
been here many times before. yes its completely unfair to the lad. GAA are useless. should have been scheduled better. Plenty of other examples previous to this but you are only bring it up now because it directly effects your own county

welcome to 1962 kerry. this debate existed way back when counties and clubs had loads of dual players but welcome to the table now that you have one

Playing hurling and football is no different than . playing hurling and rugby or football and soccer. The Teddy Mc Carthy days are gone. It just is what it is. StopTheLights (Galway) - Posts: 386 - 16/05/2024 13:56:00 2545110 Link 5 |
Definitely. Bad for hurling in South Kerry that he was made choose.

Lee Chin played two senior intercounty games in the one day before. Absolute madness. Football in the afternoon up the country and hurling in Wexford park the same evening. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3143 - 16/05/2024 14:33:41 2545121 Link 0 |
The split season plus U20s playing several matches now rather than straight knock out has made it virtually impossible for a dual player to play at intercounty level. journeyman (Limerick) - Posts: 141 - 16/05/2024 14:36:57 2545123 Link 0 |
Fully agree. We give out about burnout and then try to facilitate it. If only everyone could have everything. As been mentioned before here, give out about fixtures after you have been in charge of setting them. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1466 - 16/05/2024 15:29:40 2545133 Link 2 |
Dual player era is over. Cork's Aidan Walsh and Eoin Cadogan were notable in that they alternated between hurling and football during their playing days. Most dual players pick hurling and Cork footballers have lost Brian Hayes, Alan Cadogan Damien Cahalane, and Sean O' Donoghue to hurling. Hayes at least looks to have quickly found his niche in present Cork team so good luck to him.

Interesting that for first time a while, Dublin under 20s appear to be "dual free." I suspect this is now the case in Cork too? BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3118 - 16/05/2024 15:56:47 2545141 Link 0 |
Not quite…Cork's under 20 football captain lines out against Clare in under 20 hurling Friday night.

How much can you do about it? How many potential clashes do you avoid. Clashes are inevitable for players who play on multiple teams.
