So Laois it is then. Tough game, they're a big powerful side but we shouldn't fear them. Last year they were a Div 4 side (yes they were promoted) but we were a Div 3 side so there shouldn't be any inferiority on our part. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9785 - 16/06/2024 16:42:17 2551921 Link 0 |
Glen Ryan has resigned. They've had a tough 12 months. MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 999 - 16/06/2024 16:49:41 2551933 Link 0 |
Our we in line for a local derby, Down v Antrim final? Yourjoking (USA) - Posts: 729 - 16/06/2024 18:02:41 2551968 Link 0 |
Fair play to Laois and Antrim for overcoming the extra game and travelling away to make the semi-finals. I know in Laois' case was more a neutral venue. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 16/06/2024 19:14:09 2551987 Link 0 |
Now wouldent that be great , but im sure Sligo and Laois would have something to say about that

Laois and Antrim providing two shocks the weekend making Down strong favourites to lift the cup although Sligo gave Limerick some hammering and could prove a tough nut for Down in semi final . OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 718 - 17/06/2024 09:58:27 2552198 Link 0 |
Clare only had to beat Waterford to qualify for the All-Ireland series. A balanced provincial draw might have seen Clare in the Tailteann and Down in the All-Ireland series. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 17/06/2024 10:26:12 2552221 Link 1 |
Great win for Laois yesterday. Came up against a Kildare team at a low ebb no doubt, but with Laois only just overcoming NY in the previous round, Kildare were still worthy 5 point favourites. Laoisvillian (Laois) - Posts: 87 - 17/06/2024 11:54:38 2552282 Link 0 |
Well done yesterday, we ran Kildare very close only to lose by 6/7 points in the group stage, only to lose by same amount to Wicklow the next week so ye are operating at a bit higher level than us and we have a lot of work to do to stay up next year (not that the league final did not prove this already). NY nearly caught you but they are not a bad team, getting better every year and would be competitive in Div3 if they were able to enter so would not read into it too much. It should be a very good game and glad to see it retains its spot on Sunday in HQ, moving it would be going back on GAA's promises to respect the competition.

Down Laois final, but Sligo should not be discounted.

Ironic how "hurling people" are again non stop complaining about hurling not being promoted etc yet Wexford wanted to change fixtures to take TC semi finals out of Croke Park to suit them. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 18/06/2024 10:16:10 2552617 Link 0 |
I think both things can be true, the hurling quarter finals should be promoted better and played at better times and the Tailteann teams shouldn't have their fixtures moved on a whim. Laoisvillian (Laois) - Posts: 87 - 18/06/2024 12:48:26 2552695 Link 0 |
That's because wexford are hosting the feile the same day with a lot of people and clubs tied up in it

then move the hurling to Thurles on Sunday instead?

Down had a comfortable win over Sligo in the league and were ruthless against Laois in last year's semi-final. Laois won Division 4 and have that Croke Park game time this year to recover from last year. Antrim and Laois both lost in last year's semi-finals. Down and Antrim are understandably favourites but Sligo and Laois cannot be written off. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 18/06/2024 18:42:33 2552815 Link 0 |
So why should it effect football games? If it was the other way around and the football Feile was in a county who wanted to move hurling championship games would Wexford etc be so supportive?

Wexford didn't want the Tailteann Cup semi-finals taken out of Croke Park. What we asked for was just that the hurling quarter-finals be played on Sunday instead. There was nothing in our request about the venue. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2622 - 19/06/2024 09:54:43 2552916 Link 0 |
Croke Park had given a commitment to televise the hurling All Ireland quarter finals. They equally had given the same commitment to the semi Finals of the Tailteann Cup plus they were fixed months ago for Croke Park.. Therein lies the problem. Was it fair to flip the games to accommodate Wexford request, I think the answer is No. Is it fair to Wexford that they are hosting the All Ireland Feile and lots of people are going too miss the game as a result. Absolutely not. The problem is that the fixtures are a mess. There's not a minute that's not accounted for once the championship starts and this is suffocating the life out of the games. Thankfully people have stayed away and with so much apathy out there I believe there will be changes next year. All the counties involved are getting treated poorly with Wexford obviously the worst affected.
