to stream it live for free

If people didn't pay this subscription living in Ireland then it would be worthless to the gaa.

Watched the games live yesterday and watched the highlights later on. Seems strange that four different commentators were used, ie the Saturday Game didnt use the GAAGo commentary.

That's a fair point but people are paying because they want to watch the games. Possibly having a detrimental effect on attendances though having more games in this format and more options to view them online or TV and decide not to go. But at least you have a choice, whereas the TV licence is not a choice, legally. And government taking in VAT from GAAGO and a lot more broadcast activities and still want the €160, even if you rarely watch RTE.

The game is over what are you on about ? They upload most all Ireland finals to YouTube when they are finished. they should upload quarter finals if they are behind a pay wall. Almost 1 million people saw mayo beat Dublin 2 years back how much watched yesterday? 60,000? Nearly 100 years since Galway beat Dublin, although they only played 7 times, but most didn't see this historical game.

I'll keep paying for the yearly subscription as it's value for money. There's no satisfying the likes of yourself, everything can't be free. I'm forced to buy BBC licence but it's worth it for GAA and radio alone.

Very strange argument. This website wasn't around 50 years ago. Just because something wasn't around doesn't mean you can deprive people of it now. What if hoganstand goes behind a pay wall ? It's amazing how the GAA community has changed over time with modern Ireland. Let them have crumbs sure they had less crumbs years ago

It's not an 'argument', I stated a fact.
Here's another fact for you. RTE showed about 6 and half hours of GAA sports on Sunday, this wasn't a one-off, it's happened regularly this year. There was also about another 2 hours of GAA sport on TG4 on Saturday. Yet you have the gall to call it 'crumbs'?

Really what I think they might be trying to say is in general people are been deprived of seeing football as a reason it may be losing popularity.

The fact of matter is there has never been as many games on terrestrial TV as there is now.

Nobody is been deprived of it but like the tv licence or sky tv you have pay for it.

The exception been the small percentage who haven't the functionality to access GAAGO

Sure that would make complete sense which RTE lack a lot off… do you not realise 4 commentators cost a lot more than 2…. The waste continues

It is crumbs. Why put the best games behind a pay wall? You sound like mcBennett rte are showing more games then ever just not the ones people want to see. Here a u18s game on TG4 for ye. Enjoy the crumbs. Even the rugby loving rte don't put u20 WC on TV the put stuff on people want to watch

Why do people use the argument of quantity over quality? That's like saying sure Loi is on rte isn't that the same as champions league? it's all soccer? sure what more do ye want?

The best games 'behind a pay wall'? Are you serious?
On Sunday RTE showed 5 hours of live coverage of two All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-finals - Louth v Donegal and Kerry v Derry, and you call that crumbs!?

RTE is behind a paywall. Double the cost of a GAAGO subscription. And no-one will be knocking on your door checking your GAAGO subscription.

'Why put the best games behind a pay wall'? Hard to take anyone seriously with a question like that.

The playback on their TV app is brutal. Works great on phone. Livestreaming on the app is good too. Other TV playback apps work fine. No more than their 'partner' RTE with their Player they should have put more work in on testing the playback quality first.

It's still amazing to me how many people are so comfortable with the relationship the gaa have with rte!

Everything is behind a pay wall in that case then.
Rte isn't near being behind a pay wall compared to sky, BT or whoever else.

I'm not but I love watching games. I'll even say, begrudgingly, that I think RTE television has improved. RTE radio is very good, their Docs on one podcasts very good. Hard to beat Sport on Sunday during the league when they bounce from ground to ground. But the Player drives me demented. A lot of quality there but it stalls too much. Granted it's probably less contention but TG4 Player is much better and rarely breaks down.
