Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "'Football has come a long way since the hoofing of the Jackie C days'.
The irony is, that a lot the players who played under Jack were top class and played for top clubs and were well capable of playing more than just 'hoof ball'."
Jackie Charlton didn't do too bad. 1994 win against Italy at Giants stadium with 100,000 watching the spectacle. Even more notable in that for that tournament, the Italians progressed to the World Cup final. Reaching quarter finals of World Cup in 1990 was an achievement, and beating England in Euros in 1988 was a highlight. Yep, Jackie was more than a good fisherman!

Ireland were the only team who managed to beat Italy in play that World Cup too.

It is ironic that people on the forum are lamenting Big Jack's "hoof ball" tactics while at the same time there seems to be a yearning for the return of "hoof ball" to Gaelic Football.

Replying To Lockjaw:  "Kerry may well win the All Ireland, but it will be far from easy. If they saunter into the semi-final with the same thinking that you have, Armagh will soon refocus their minds."
Armagh will certainly put it up to Kerry in the semi final. The kingdom will not get a handy All Ireland because Dublin are gone. The comment about Galway shows a lack of respect to their team, who beat Dublin, and possess 3 brilliant forwards in Shane Walsh, Damian Comer and Rob Finnerty, plus other good players as evident from their form this year. They will give Kerry plenty to think about if they win their respective semi finals.
A lazy comment as posted shows that the poster has little understanding of football.

Replying To Joxer:  "Absolutely. One of the most talented squads we ever had. Brady, Lawrenson, Aldridge, Houghton, Whelan, Staunton, McGrath, Sheedy, Townsend all playing for top English teams at the time, who played decent football. Jack's instruction was basically to run and hound players like crazy, hoof the ball into the opposition half and keep it there as they can't score from that far out. Simple, effective but God awful to watch."
Did Slovenia not play a similar type of game against Portugal, I think they did and it worked.

Not exactly. Only the 4 teams in the semi final beat Derry which must be a unique scenatio.

It's interesting to read observations that Rob Finnerty is brilliant, while key members of our defense like young McGrath are merely good.

Must be the temperature, not the attendance.

I don't think anyone is yearning for a return to aimless hoof-ball. A return to football would be nice. The players may as well be wearing Jordan Air basketball boots for all the ball handling they do. The odd kick pass here and there would be nice.

I still think the 3 forwards are match winners when they click, that is view held by a lot of people. Galway have good players all over the field. They can win the All Ireland this year. What do you think?

I think Galway have an improved squad since 2022, and that the team that beats Kerry will win it out. Otherwise, Kerry will win it.

Galway better not let Donegal dominate the game in the Donegal way.
Armagh will be a tough opponent for Kerry. Once upon a time Kerry beat Armagh in extra time of a replay. Galway then won an All-Ireland the year after and Armagh won an All-Ireland the year after that.

Liverpool fans I'd guess. Klopp did rehash it successfully for a few years.
