Senior Football Championship 2024

Just noting that any team that had a tough match last weekend fell by the sword this weekend. This rushed championship is diluting our National Games in so many ways.

Louth have squeezed past Cork into the quarter-finals. 2 home teams, Louth nominated a Monaghan venue, and 2 away teams have qualified from the preliminary quarter-finals.
Possible quarter-final pairings:
Armagh v Roscommon or Louth.
Dublin v GALWAY OR DERRY.
Donegal v GALWAY, DERRY, Roscommon or Louth.
Kerry v GALWAY, DERRY or Roscommon.
The GAA might be tempted to draw Roscommon or Louth for Armagh and Galway or Derry for Dublin before the remainder of the draw is completed.

Replying To legendzxix:  "The championship has finally sprung to life! It has been a long process. Ahead of Louth v Cork later, I think these are the possible pairings:
Armagh v Roscommon, Cork or Louth.
Dublin v Galway, Derry or Cork.
Donegal v Galway, Derry, Roscommon or Louth.
Kerry v Galway, Derry, Roscommon or Cork."
Dublin can only get Derry or Galway now.

Claire, you promised us all on the deluded blog last night that you were taking a few days away from Social media, but you then continued to post on the blog throughout the night and morning, Ha!, and now you are here, make up your mind Ha!

Not arguing with your observation vis a vis the rushed championship, but I think you're confusing causation for correlation.

But whatever about that, huge congrats to the Wee County! What a result.

Galway survived. But yes, all 4 teams that came through this weekend face a mammoth task to get over the semi final. I guess that's the reward for finishing first in the group, Mayo paid the ultimate price yesterday for not holding onto first spot.

Replying To martinjoe:  "OK Watched the game back there nowm painful an adl all as it was. I will try and keep my observations confined to documentable facts. Yesterdays game was the first "must win" game of 2024 and we did not win it. One point from play in the Connacht final and again yesterday is not enough from our main scorer who has been outstanding all year. On the one hand I agree with Martin Carney and Cora who have pointed to a pattern of Mayo struggling when AOS is taken off. Even when he is not on the ball he is causing problems for teams. We gambled big time by going all in to try and beat the Dubs, probably on the basis thatb they had not had a meaningful game in months. Although they were rattled by our hunger and intensity, the truth is that Dublin were not at full tilt, and would not have been too inconvienced had they lost. The mental strain of that failure to beat the Dubs, and the physical effort showed yesterday. Pat Spillane is still 100% correct in his contention that our downfall is down to lack of natural scoring forwards. Finally I expect the last survivors of 2014 epic to call it off now. Cillian and AOS are forever in the GAA record books and I think DOC will also depart leaving McStay with a brand new team for 2025."
I think Aidan had his best season for years. Less gallivanting back the pitch helping out where he's not needed and, I think, more pacing himself, improved fitness kept him going and improving. I think he still has plenty to offer if he's ready for that commitment again.

Extra time and penalties is no way to decide these matches. I felt sorry on Mayo last night. They put in a serious shift. It kind of leaves Derry needing a massive performance next week again with injuries and knocks being nursed. The whole thing needs revisited. Sligo also didn't deserve to lose today. Added to that the fact we have lost 3 games and are still in championship. I am not complaining but objectively its a farce.

The draw will be very interesting tomorrow morning. Can we SEE it live anywhere as it could be tricky?

Again who's this clare..

Our minors went out probably due to the after effect of us going out last night.

Ye are quite sad some people just love to see us fail.

Kobe Mcdonald is only young and will be huge in the future.

Calm down Clare. You have to know by now that seeing Mayo lads like yourself losing it in posts only makes the summer all the sweeter? And for all the talk of how bad it is to decide a game on penalties, ye were kept in the game by one that should never have been given, and ye still managed to lose at home. Lordy, that first half…

Gaa draws aren't the greatest spectator sport I've ever seen, I'll stick with the wireless!
