Replying To GreenandRed:  "We could do with some pot to listen to them pods Belclare. Congrats to Galway. Hope some of yer walking wounded can be fit to play next weekend."
Hard luck yesterday GreenandRed, I was hoping the three Connacht teams would make it to Croker.

Replying To endgame:  "Kevin McStay. Always gracious in defeat and he had some bad days managing Roscommon as well. A true gentleman. Mayo paid the price for Dublin's late equaliser last weekend. The margins are tight. Mayo have beaten us twice in this year's championship but we're in a quarter final and they're out."
A week is a long time in politics, but it's not a long time in this part of the 'condensed' GAA intercounty season. Mayo out today, but Galway and Roscommon will likely be gone in a week too. The margins may be tight, but the outcomes aren't a whole lot different, unless Galway or Roscommon win next weekend.

Replying To S1234:  "That's absolutely hilarious...?

We support our team as much as any other county does and it's hype?

By far the beat 2 games of whole season have been mayo v dubs and mayo v derry cause we being the never say die attitude.

The thing ya have that ye aways have to slag us off is pathetic.

We lost but we never gave till the lady second tonight and the video of our captain leading our team out on crutches says it all we a few family and be back next year as always..."
When you blow the lead in games I don't think it's a never say die attitude of your team, more so the opposition.

Mayo let the lead in 3 big games slip this year in the dying moments of injury time and that has cost them a Connacht title and a QF place at the very least.

Well done Derry. Expected a tight game but Mayo to pull through. However, you can't go 35m in championship football without a score and expect to win. They just lacked that cutting edge up front. Derry will be a tough prospect for anyone now. Tyrone are shambolic. I really fancied them in Omagh but there was no intensity and they don't seem to have a plan B. Blanket, turnover, lethargic attack seems to be the system but that's it. Delighted for the Rossies. Conor McManus, one of, if not the, greatest forward of his generation. Loved watching him play. Legend. Best of luck to the Wee County today.

An intriguing weekend so far. All 3 games could have gone either way. Really sorry for Mayo and I would have hoped for the 3 Connacht sides to get through. It highlights the anomalies of the system that Mayo lost 1 game in championship ( unluckily by 1 point) while Derry got 3 fairly decent beatings but the bottom line is that Derry were slightly better than them yesterday. I also feel that the teams that had tough games against div 1 opposition last week struggled this week. Mayo v Dublin, gakway v armagh . I would even go as far as to say that Tyrone had a tougher game v cork than ros v cavan or indeed Derry v westmeath or Monaghan v Meath. The top quality teams take it out of you.

Replying To Belclare7:  "Oh lord above... so Paddy Walked the lads out on crutches! ..
That doesn't help ye put the ball over the bar..
Mayo are seriously lacking marquee forwards like Comer, Walsh, Finnerty and Roscommons Daire Cregg...
And the three Galway lads all carrying serious injuries ..
Ah ref better get the podcast going.. lots to talk and yawn about"
Ah Belclare tbh have we not enough to be worried about ourselves. Let Mayo take care of ourselves win or lose. We are unbeaten all championship and feels we are on the ropes. The added kick yesterday Shane going off injured. Will we ever catch a break on the injury front to key game changer platers. Mind you a flat performance is often followed by a good one so hanging onto that. Also Kerry, Dublin, Donegal I would think will be quiet confident of taking us but our lads are hard to beat. We need to increase our scoring ceiling though.

Replying To yew_tree:  "Congrats to Derry on a deserved win. We just don't have enough quality at the minute. GAA teams go in cycles and we are on the wrong spoke at this present time. That said the tactics and game management on our sideline was not at it today and learnt nothing from the Connacht final or Dublin game in how to close a game out.

Well done to our neighbours on getting through. It will be very tough for all teams especially Derry after playing ET to get a result next weekend. It's a bonkers championship structure but no point going down that road again."
Defo a point in going down that road again.

It's a stupid, silly and ill thought out structure.

We're hamstringing 4 of our quarter finalists! The quarters should be a cracking round of football but we've made it extra difficult on half the teams in it! It's a maddening sabotage by the GAA imo.

Shocked at the result last night. I thought Mayo would come through comfortably.

None of us are as good as we like to think we are. Most teams are beatable on any given day, even Dublin/Kerry can occasionally be caught off guard.

Derry can play Donegal as they met in the earlier rounds in Ulster. Teams can't meet if they were in the same group or if they played each other in a provincial final.

I might be wrong but Donegal can indeed play Derry because it's only Cork they can't meet, if they win today, as they were in our All Ireland group stage.

Yes we can play Dublin, Kerry or Donegal. We can't play Armagh as it is a repeat pairing from the group. The repeat pairings applies to the Provincial finals and the group stages. As we played Donegal in the quarters of Ulster we can draw them again.

From a,Dublin perspective it was worrying how Derry were able to close down Mayo attack compared to ease of scores in Hyde.

Badly miss a fit Gannon and Jamsie. Mick Fitz not the pace he once had, obviously.

OK Watched the game back there nowm painful an adl all as it was. I will try and keep my observations confined to documentable facts. Yesterdays game was the first "must win" game of 2024 and we did not win it. One point from play in the Connacht final and again yesterday is not enough from our main scorer who has been outstanding all year. On the one hand I agree with Martin Carney and Cora who have pointed to a pattern of Mayo struggling when AOS is taken off. Even when he is not on the ball he is causing problems for teams. We gambled big time by going all in to try and beat the Dubs, probably on the basis thatb they had not had a meaningful game in months. Although they were rattled by our hunger and intensity, the truth is that Dublin were not at full tilt, and would not have been too inconvienced had they lost. The mental strain of that failure to beat the Dubs, and the physical effort showed yesterday. Pat Spillane is still 100% correct in his contention that our downfall is down to lack of natural scoring forwards. Finally I expect the last survivors of 2014 epic to call it off now. Cillian and AOS are forever in the GAA record books and I think DOC will also depart leaving McStay with a brand new team for 2025.

The championship has finally sprung to life! It has been a long process. Ahead of Louth v Cork later, I think these are the possible pairings:
Armagh v Roscommon, Cork or Louth.
Dublin v Galway, Derry or Cork.
Donegal v Galway, Derry, Roscommon or Louth.
Kerry v Galway, Derry, Roscommon or Cork.

Your off your rocker if you think DOC is going to retire at the age of 29.

DOC isn't going anywhere in his prime years.
