Offaly claimed an important win over Westmeath. They'll be looking to get to 8 points. Westmeath can only get to 6 points at best. Offaly shouldn't have to be depending on any result from Laois v Westmeath in Round 5. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 27/04/2024 17:47:13 2540970 Link 0 |
Kerry beat Down by 0-26 to 2-12. It was a close enough game up until Down had a man sent off. Kerry kicked for home after that. Kerry's McDonagh status should be secure after that. Many were worrying about that after the league. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 28/04/2024 14:53:02 2541168 Link 0 |
Kerry are going to be a major handful for (Offaly and Laois). Anyone denying that is misdirecting. skirge7 (UK) - Posts: 254 - 28/04/2024 15:46:22 2541176 Link 0 |
I'd pencil Laois in as hot favourites. The winner of Offaly v Kerry should qualify too assuming no more upsets skirge7 (UK) - Posts: 254 - 28/04/2024 16:06:26 2541185 Link 0 |
Kerry won't fear Offaly, Kerry have beaten them a few times over the last few year albeit this is a relatively young and newish Kerry team. It will make the new few weeks interesting that's for sure, that McDonagh is always a closely fought and fairly even competition. The standard of hurling is really good. Laois and Offaly are the favourites to make the final. Kerry haven't played either of those two yet. It was only after Down had a man sent off that Kerry kicked on. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 29/04/2024 17:41:48 2541583 Link 0 |
Tough game for Kerry on Saturday. Laois are going well and have the look of a team ready for tier 1. They were not happy with Offaly B losing and keeping them out of a final last year. They seem determined this year. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 03/05/2024 22:51:29 2542740 Link 0 |
Just to note Laois didn't make the final last year because they lost to Offaly and drew with Carlow nothing to do Offaly putting out a second team in the last game. Which they were entitled to do as they were due to the ridiculous schedule they had to play with games 7 weeks on the trot tonorio (Offaly) - Posts: 609 - 04/05/2024 19:06:00 2542908 Link 1 |
Presume our feint hopes in McDonagh cup ended this afternoon in Ballycran? Five points maximum will be impossible to qualify on, leading by 7-8 in first half and then trailing by 7 twenty minutes later sums up our year, extremely disappointing, Joe Fortune surely won't be offered a third year, big changes needed. Winner of Offaly Kerry next week should qualify, along with Lapis.

The result in Tralee today wasn't too surprising. Laois are men on a mission. Possibly Offaly are best placed to challenge them. Offaly v Kerry is nudging into semi-final territory, though it is in the penultimate round. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 05/05/2024 00:00:55 2543008 Link 0 |
Kerry won't fear Offaly: Understatement of the year. Agree w you and those that believe this is a worthwhile competition. The games are worth playing, teams worth beating. Laois have an edge to them. They have a clear mission. UpOffaly (Offaly) - Posts: 69 - 06/05/2024 16:44:35 2543350 Link 0 |
Laois and Offaly appear to be the top two. Offaly avoided Laois in the final last year. Laois have bounced back with a clear determination.

Laois have qualified for the McDonagh final with a game to spare. Offaly v Kerry is a McDonagh effectively a semi-final tomorrow. The winner will join Laois in the final. Offaly are the heavy favourites. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 18/05/2024 18:25:00 2545434 Link 0 |

Dead rubber game indeed, but that was a good beating handed out to Laois by Westmeath. 35OLT (USA) - Posts: 99 - 25/05/2024 18:29:46 2547007 Link 1 |
Westmeath will regroup next year. Whoever is relegated from Leinster will want to bounce back. Antrim, Carlow, Laois, Offaly and Westmeath are all in 1B of the league next year, alongside Dublin and Waterford. The trio of McDonagh counties in 1B should benefit from that level of hurling. Kerry, Down and the Ring winner (Kildare most likely or Derry) will be at a disadvantage but that's the price to pay for not being in a higher division. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8293 - 25/05/2024 18:46:13 2547014 Link 0 |
Could be all change in the McDonagh next year Tom Mullaly is hot properly Carlow might do well to hold on to him. Rumours he's been approached about the Kilkenny U20s If Offaly don't go up you could see Leo O'Connor as the new Offaly manager Willie Maher prob safe in Laois after winning promotion in the league Molumphy gone in Kerry so new man there Rumours here that Joe will be gone LockLeanGayl (Westmeath) - Posts: 257 - 27/05/2024 11:06:46 2547523 Link 0 |
