The Limerick 5 In A Row, Will They Do It?

Replying To daveboy:  "You are 100% correct. A vast gap without securing the top prize making what they've achieved now remarkable but also very difficult to concede it away. Limerick have had many great teams in that time but for one reason or another didn't get over the line. Limerick have had 2 generational teams in their history and the present one possibly the greatest the game has seen.

History is history and all countys have had fallow periods . Limericks AI wins have covered 126 years and 12 total. The current team have swept all before them and as the thread says they are attempting to do what no one has in the history of the sport. They've already achieved numerous records in the history of the game. A great game."
Yes, Limerick have swept all before them, and the other counties in Munster will be eager to dethrone them. Competition is what it's all about. Kiely I would think, will take every game as it comes and 5 in a row talk will be put on back burner. He will use the defeat at the weekend to a very impressive Kilkenny team as a wake up call. Let the games begin!

Yes like last year i think the munster championship is going to be extremely tight and some great matches in store. Kiely will be happy enough with where limerick are currently and they are a week to week team. They'll go to ennis now slightly under the radar if that's possible for what they're going for. They know every team will give that bit extra against them and most countys at this stage would love to see a new champion. But champions do die hard.

Replying To Viking66:  "Yes to the last part and yes to the first, though as regards the 1st part you obviously aren't reading the posts of mine that you are complaining about. All the Limerick people I knew were worried about the Clare game BEFORE it, not after it. Maybe you should meet a few more people on the ground around the country instead of relying on pundits for your opinions, most of whom said Limerick were certs for that semifinal against Clare, and who mostly weren't from Limerick in any case.
As regards the last part of your post, that's not too bad for any team outside the historical big 3, all the rest of us have had droughts lasting longer than the 45 years Limerick had to wait between 1973 and 2018.
Glad you have realised now that their longest drought wasn't the 70 odd years you thought it was. We all learn new stuff every day;-)"
I was in Limerick the week before that game and what you said was very much the opposite. Like I said very easy to claim you were worried about something after the fact.

I never said it was 70 years though.

You're now talking about the big 3 again when I few posts back you were dismissing Tipp.

Good man, Viking! Let no one put you down on this forum. You've been a fine poster for many is the year now.

But you surely put the cat among the pigeons when you said that you think Limerick "are going to win because their 3 main challengers, including yourselves, aren't as good at modern hurling and have weaknesses they will exploit."

It may be very well true, but did you see the ire and backlash that it drew out of the Cork lads? Reading how much it peeved them and how they reacted by referring to you as all things under the sun, was truly worth a day in the bog!

Keep at it!

Not quite! Are Cork in the 3 main challengers list? I thought that would be Clare, Kilkenny and Galway. Anyway, it's a mute point, and posters like "forever young"are not relevant to any constructive discussion. Let's hope we have another feisty and competitive Munster championship, which is what everyone wants!

Replying To Ryanteam:  "Cork's team for the Waterford game won't be too far off the following…. Midfield is as yet unsettled and it will be interesting who is selected there…………. Collins, E. Downey, Cahalane, O' Donoghue, Millerick, Joyce, R. Downey, Coleman, Tommy O' Connell/Tim O' Mahony, Dalton, Harnedy, Fitzgibbon, Horgan, Connolly, Barrett/Hayes. Replacements; Sean Twomey, Niall O' Leary, O' Flynn,Brian Roche, Jack O' Connor,Eoin Roche, Kingston, Lehane, Meade, Ethan Twomey. Waterford will be hungry to atone for a disappointing league and Davy will have them primed for a massive test in Walsh Park."
is there a shortage of fullbacks in cork. where are all these u20 winning players ........thats up on 10 or 11 of the same cork players for the last 3 or 4 years. cork need new talent.

My eldest sons godfather is down in Cork. I've many friends down there. And as I've posted many times on different threads I think the next county to win the AI after Limerick will be Cork. Just not this year, or maybe not next either. If they are getting upset over what a complete stranger from 100 miles away is posting on an anonymous forum maybe therapy of some sort is called for;-)

Hopefully it will be Ryanteam. And no I wasn't including Cork in that this year.

Doubt if anyone gets upset over forum posts. The players and team managers are the important bits… anyway 3 weeks to championship and all to play for. Happy Easter and Bye for now!

OK my mistake winning one in 70 odd years. How are you going to try and spin that? Bring up how many Munster semi-finals they were in?
oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1376 - 27/03/2024 13:37:32

You did say it was 70 years.

"Historical big 3" includes Tipp. When I was born they were tied most for AIs with Cork on 21, and that year increased their total to 22. The point I was making in the other post is that since that year they are tied with Limerick, only have 2 more than Galway, and 3 more than Clare. So not in the same League as Cork and Kilkenny, the big 2. Btw that's hardly dismissing Tipp, merely stating a fact, and they have 6 times as many AIs in my lifetime as we have.

What part of Limerick were you in? None of the parts I go to obviously. Were you hanging out with real hurling people or a bunch of bandwaggoners inside in the City?

Toomey, Roche, Kingston all named in the replacements on that team.

Only thing to stop limerick is a gruelling Munster championship and suffer injuries to key players. They might be vulnerable in an AI semi final.

Fair play to both fathers. Not an easy thing to do, I imagine.

They have the potential, resources, fan base, experience and talent coming through to push on this year. They are still struggling to see out the tight matches. Possibly their biggest hurdle to still be jumped."
If Cork can add goals consistently to their game they'll be in with a serious shout.....I don't think this limerick team are done yet in terms of all irelands, not sure if the next one they'll win will be this year though
