What exactly is the problem here? How is it virtue signalling? KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3674 - 26/02/2024 08:00:43 2528184 Link 2 |
As ong as they don't get Eamon Ryan involved, it's a long cycle fron Tyrone to Dublin.

I saw one of the bins there on Saturday night, 3 compartments - one for waste, another for recycling and another for brown waste. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1259 - 26/02/2024 15:29:06 2528374 Link 0 |
Triggered by a sports stadium, fair play Barney

At least they didn't leave the chips on the ground or the seats. Probably deciding are chips with salt and ketchup good for composting. The age old dilemma!

Barney set to appear on Fox News to complain about things that have absolutely no negative impact on his life. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8159 - 26/02/2024 19:08:55 2528463 Link 4 |
No worse than being triggered by a post on an anonymous Internet forum Breff. For the record it probably is phoney virtue signalling. Any stadium that invites hundreds of thousands of people to drive countless miles the length of the country in diesel /petrol cars and trains /buses every year for no other reason than to watch a game can hardly be praised for being green. It should by right be encouraging them to abandon travel and watch the game at home. Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 26/02/2024 19:18:02 2528466 Link 3 |
That post reminds me of the Yanks who are against gun control. Basically if you can't solve the problem totally then don't create any initiatives that help in any way.

Those who worry and complain about things that won't affect them personally but will affect those that come after them should be praised, not jeered.

On TVs powered solely by green energy, of course ;) On a serious note, any praise of Croker will always be tempered by the regret felt not seeing it finished at the Hill end. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5195 - 26/02/2024 21:15:06 2528498 Link 2 |
And how will this negatively affect anyone? Another daft response. We complain about the daftest stuff in our country.

My response wasn't daft, , it was a valid rebuttal to your idea that people should only care about things that affect them personally.

I asked you how does this initiative impact anyone in a negative way?

My post was in response to a snide remark you made to barney about complaining about things that don't affect him personally. As for the above initiative, I never said it impacted anyone in a negative way, I said it struck me as virtue signalling. Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 26/02/2024 22:54:09 2528516 Link 1 |
I'd prefer to see the GAA focusing on meaningful, tangible initiatives like properly promoting hurling and sorting the fixtures chaos than indulging this nonsense. Hawkeye2 (Wicklow) - Posts: 138 - 27/02/2024 02:24:29 2528523 Link 2 |
In the wider scheme of things using public transport is far better then cars the problem is that we spent billions on roads and sweet nothing on building an efficient public transport system - everyone wanted their car and their motorway. Croke Park cannot be blamed for choices of others. Each organization and individual have to make their own choices - the excuse that as an individual your contribution wouldn't make a difference is a cop out for not taking responsibility for the problems that you have created. There are big problems that need to be solved but it starts with individuals taking personal responsibility and then creating the change the whole way up along the line.

Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1619 - 26/02/2024 21:11:10 2528495 Here is your post. Saying people are right to complain about things that affect future generations. Stop moving the goalposts. This is the point you made. And you admitted it does not affect anyone negatively. But you are happy people complain about it anyway. No wonder Joe Duffy has so many listeners. They can do both! This is both meaningful and tangible as well. And croke park is open for events the whole year round where this is going to be worked towards so is very meaningful KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3674 - 27/02/2024 10:08:02 2528554 Link 0 |
