The rules for players playing for both 1st & 2nd teams begin to kick in at this stage of the league and clubs with small pools of players haven't the numbers to get a 2nd team out. So the reason for a lot of walkovers now is probably has more to do with clubs 2nd teams being allowed to field players who have started 6 or less games for the clubs first team. A lot of lads have already started more than 6 games at this stage and can no longer play down.

Yea I think this is probably a major contributor alright and a rule that I'm on the fence about. In one sense it stops clubs loading up their second team with first team players just for the sake of winning, but on the other side it means that a second team lad, getting a chance due to county lads being away/injuries/holidays etc could find himself only being able to play half a league campaign and then left on the bench once lads come back. I think this rule and the list together can end up ruling out up to 20 players (22 in my own club) after round 6 or 7 from second team league which isn't really fair on club or player, if the list submitted is used correctly and monitored then I personally think thats enough

I agree. I think it's too much. If clubs are naming 15 players who can't play down as well I'm pretty sure lads who played championship for Meath the year before can't play down regardless if they are on the list of 15 or not. That's more than enough. Everyone else should be allowed play down.

He means that the lads who would have togged for the seconds normally had to fill in a tog for the seniors instead the next day and so couldn't play 2 games in 2 days

Well if it can't work in current state, maybe we should revert back to A and B leagues and stop mixing lower ranked clubs with 2nd/3rd teams from larger clubs. It's so inconsistent and usually based on when fixtures are put out!

Agreed. Bring back the B Leagues scrap the Premier competitions and put the 2nd and 3rd teams back into the Junior Championships

Would it make sense to no longer allow 3rd/4th teams into the A-League set up.
Run a separate B-League or summer competition on non-football weeks for those teams. This should result in larger playing pools available for 1st and 2nd teams on A-league weeks and provide a separate more social competition for those playing on third teams. I think current set up works fine until you get into the summer period where clubs with 3 teams are completely stretched. This should result in less concessions.

League only has 1 or 2 rounds left now either way. Has worked pretty well overall. Semi Final places are getting interesting. Most games left have something to play for in last rounds. All county players back now too so expect the likes of Dunshaughlin, Summerhill to kick on.

Agreed
League has worked well
Ratoath problems last week in fielding were their own
Because of groups of lads going on holiday together and some injured players
This was a once off and albeit it caused many problems with numbers in both hurling and football the leagues in general have been real good with games being competitive and lads playing

When teams are level on points in the league, are the positions decided by head to head or score difference? Cheers
