Quick question for Cork people. Saw highlights of some of recent Cork games, why are Cork not wearing red jerseys (they are wearing a mainly black jersey)?

The Cork hurlers have such jerseys ready too for next season: 20 years without Liam!

We will be back to traditional Red & White for the championship. Over the league we have sported these training tops, which I assume are aimed at the younger market.
We had a beautiful black top recently enough, just it was spoiled by a large "CHILL Insurance " accross the chest.

Speaking of jerseys the Meath jersey 1987/1988 was a classic offering, the green jersey with yellow piping, iconic player's & Sean Boylan weaving his spell, all blended together to create an unbreakable team with an iron will, who could play seriously good football as well.

I think the 50 pence coin around that time had the same design as the Dublin jersey on it to mark this event. While in rugby Ireland & England played for a Millennium cup as well.

Good tiimes all right. The Meath Cork rivalry was great back then. Unfortunately it's a long time since Meath had a rivalry like that, you have to be competitive to get something like that. Hopefully the Meath and Cork footballers can get back to the top, who knows, maybe reignite a rivalry. Last time I was down in Cork I used Google maps to find Larry Tompkins pub and was disappointed when I got there to find it was no longer in business.

I think the earlier Dublin Jersey with the vertical lines on it is probably more iconic for them. I think Down had a similar Jersey to us that time also (just from remembering a program from 87 where the Down minors were playing).

Yeah that pub is closed with a while, twas a hot spot in the 1990's/2000's. In relation to Meath & ourselves, the 1st hurdle for both sides is to ply our trade in Division 1 football, & get accustomed again to quality football week upon week. The issue of exiting Division 2 is easier said then done & Division 3 is a real possibility for us.

In general in my opinion the late 1980's saw many inter county sides sport wonderful jerseys. Galway, Tipperary, Kerry, Dublin, Tyrone, Mayo, Offaly, Roscommon, etc

It was a rivalry yes, but in reality both teams hated each other. Still, it brought out the best in both teams and they dominated football landscape between 1987 and 1990. Should be an even game at the weekend and good to see Meath under Colm O' Rourke putting in good performances. Leinster needs a few teams to challenge Dublin

Meeting in 4 finals in 4 seasons (in 88 there was a replay) is why such a big edge came into it.

That design lasted with Meath up until and including 1990, although that years Leinster Final was its last championship appearance as I recall as we wore a plain green and white trim jersey against Donegal in the semi final and a one off design in the final v Cork where the pattern was moved to the sleeves and shoulders and An Mhi was emblazoned across the chest for some unknown reason. The jersey reappeared for the '90/91 league but then the standard new design of sleeves in secondary colour and arrows down the sleeves took over in the sponsorship era

Uh oh: that time for a quick review ahead of the weekend
Louth v Fermanagh. Both badly need a win here. A win of any sort gets them up a bit and gives a chance for next week, lose and likely are down. Real relegation battle coming up. I'll lean towards Louth. been better overall despite 4 losses, with 3 of those by a point. They're good at home in what is a tight venue with a heavy enough field. They know how to play it so louth to squeak this.
Meath v Cork. No idea how to call this one. Both got back going after poor starts. Meath likely safe, while Cork need another win to be sure of safety. Both in decent form, are both around the same level, and even the bookies can barely split them. This has huge draw potential. Corks need is greater, but meath by sneak this due to home comforts
Kildare v Donegal. Kildare in the horrors. Can't see anything but a Donegal win here. Long trip down to Carlow, but Donegal to keep tuning things up and do the business here. They'll pull away by the end to win by a few scores
Armagh v Cavan. The big one of the weekend. Essentially a promotion decider. Win and your fate is in your hand to get promoted (providing Donegal win their last 2 games). About as close to Championship level as you'll get at this grade, and as Ulster rivals there's no love lost between both. Armagh turned over Cavan last year in Ulster where Cavan didn't turn up or fire a shot. Was way too easy. Armagh have been going well, and Cavan too despite the narrow loss to Donegal and draw last day out to Meath. Cavan were poor last day, they always are when out 3rd week in a row. they'll be rested a bit, and are usually never that bad 2 weeks running. Armagh to scrape this one, but don't be surprised to see Cavan close or even a chance a win if it is very close coming down the straight.

Maybe it's a Cavan thing but certainly no animosity from ourselves towards Cavan, Down & Tyrone now that's a different story :)

The stuff they talked about Cavan...
