Its difficult to know after Round 2. I would expect Meath to get stronger in the coming weeks and start grinding out more results, I also think Cork will come good and string together a number of wins before the end of Division 2, they have serious talent and it won't be easy getting points at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Bit harsh on Louth …

Harsh on Louth there, easy on Cork and Meath. Cork, Meath, and Kildare to play each other yet so they'll take points off each other. Those 3 more likely to be lower down. Fermanagh might indeed be pulled in yet as they've played the 2 weaker looking teams. Saying that momentum and good vibes are a hell of a thing and they have that. Donegal away next up for them will be very tough though, but could catch them

Just looked at each of the next 5 rounds and predicted the winner while considering home/away etc. - - Cork so far have lost two away games, but I suspect they will be a different beast at Pairc Ui Chaoimh and could build up momentum.. - - Meath have players to come back and I expect them to step it up after the break, strong team. - - Cavan will be challenging for promotion and I wouldn't rule them out yet. What's the thoughts for the weekend folks? Donegal and Fermanagh will be intriguing. Donegal a smidge lucky to get away with the win in Cavan, while Fermanagh are going very well. Letterkenny a tight spot. Donegal to see it off, but just about. Meath and Louth, another derby. Louth too a good start, with Meath looking for a win of any sorts, and with their Sigerson lads back they very well might. meath to maybe sneak it at home. Armagh probably will see off Kildare. A long trek to Carlow, Kildare not going well though so Armagh to come home with the win. Even longer trip to Cork for Cavan. Cork too badly need a win. Back on home turf for them, they don't seem to travel so well. So expect a lift of performance with some players returning. Cavan going well too though, and if they get some goals (which Cork seem to leak) and take advantage of the wide open pitch they may well travel back up with the points. Cavan to sneak it for me. Massive pressure on us this weekend, not sure what to expect, tis mid February & we are really under the pump. St.Mologga (Cork) - Posts: 121 - 16/02/2024 17:38:43 2526392 Link 0 |
Massive result for Cavan down in Cork. Cork could have won it with all the goal chances and such they had. Cavan looking upwards now. Cork can turn it around yet though with who they've got after.

Tailteann Cup now a real possibility for Cork and that's bound to make that competition a non event. Competition was certainly not designed to have the gaa's largest unit participating Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1916 - 17/02/2024 19:51:27 2526536 Link 0 |
If you end up in the Taltainn Cup you could hardly be described as GAA's largest unit…!!!!

3500 turned up today for Cork vs Cavan, for a crucial league game. Very poor turnout indicative of very little interest in Gaelic football in Cork City!

It was always going to happen. With a 16 16 split, you'll always get some sides dropping down who shouldn't be there and they'll win it.

If cork end up in tailteann,ok they'll be one of favs for it but the way they are going they might struggle..I actually thought they'd push for promotion..for the last few years they've had decent under 20 teams but just not showing at senior level..things havnt been right in cork for a long time and it doesn't seem to be improving..if they end up there it's a sign they deserve to be.. How does being in Tailteann Cup affect being country's largest Gaa unit? I didn't say best unit. Both parts of my comment were factual.

My original point stands, Tailteann cup was designed for counties with zero chance of All Ireland success, Cork won All Ireland in 2010 and are consistently in top ten football counties. I'm aware of their league struggles but last summer they beat Roscommon in championship. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1916 - 17/02/2024 23:00:16 2526578 Link 0 |
Part of the attraction of the FA cup, is when a no-hoper non league team beats a premiership or championship team. Under this new GAA regime, the situation of Down knocking out Derry for example, is gone. We need to go back to straight knockout format, no second chance and if you're out, you are out. We can almost predict that this year's all Ireland will go to Kerry, Derry or Dublin!

In that case the Taltainn Cup would comprise of about 28 teams….. as only 4/5 at most have any chance of winning the All Ireland… It's current format is fine.. if you end up in your in it … no big deal..

What a difference a win makes. Based on previous 2 games I didn't see us winning that game before hand. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1400 - 19/02/2024 10:19:35 2526885 Link 0 |
