A big crowd cheering you on wouldn't be much different to working out with your favourite music blaring, it's definitely a help

But, the difference in attendance between yesterday and today is startling to say the least.
And yesterday had the TC Final also.

Big support from both Galway and Donegal today.
Great to see them come out and support their county in great numbers, just like Armagh did yesterday."
its wonderful to see the great support for Armagh Donegal and Galway. But if you are a Kerry supporter from Kenmare or even further south and have 38 All Irelands mostly won playing attractive attacking football and knowing that O Connor wants to be Tyrone and its a 2 day trip thats going to cost a fortune.I can understand especially when i can go to see the Cliffords released from that stuff playing in the local champioship for a tenner

Clare's average age was actually older than Kilkennys last Sunday,
Cork - Limerick had a lot of factors leading to the result not just 2 saves ,
Jack O'Connor himself said the Armagh support was a huge factor yesterday.
Dont read me wrong, only saying they were key factors, not the determining factor."
So true. That lad wouldn't recognise a football if it fell in his lap. Semi-final 1 - 55,000; Semi-final 2 - 67,000; (both involving 2 Irish counties). Euro Final -71,000 (involving 2 large European countries). Which would you rather attend. I know where I was yesterday and today.

There should have been at least this amount there yesterday with that double header.

Super support there today but I think the days of Sell Out days in Croke Park are gone now tbh, except for AI Finals.

The condensed season might be having an affect also - lots to fork out in quick succession.

But for me the Hurling is a better spectacle and more exciting. And I go to both codes.

Exactly. Hurling and Football, 6 of the 8 participating counties have brought astounding support to the semi finals.
Compare very favourably with England who have brought 50,000 fans (tickets or no tickets) to Berlin for the Euro Final, hardly the other side of the world. First major final for them outside of their own country.
Credit to the counties involved for the numbers attending the last 2 weekends, little or no promotion, and in fairness the football was a lot better than anyone could have expected.
GAA will have been rubbing their hands, especially after the Dubs being out.

The difference being…. If the stadium in Berlin held 250,000 it would be a sell out regardless of where you were yesterday or today… Croke park on neither day was a sell out… Don't be making silly comparisons… good lad

Definitely wouldn't have sold out at 250,000. England brought 50,000 fans, it was 3:1 English. 100,000 would have been enough capacity.
Even, in your imaginary world, if they sold out at 250,000 thats still a very small percentage of the combined populations of England and Spain (110 million).
There wasn't far off 250,000 GAA fans from the 4 semi finals, combined population of the 8 counties about 1.7 million, much higher percentage.

The GAA need to check the Donegal v Galway semi final, they said there was an attendance of 67k. The stadium looked and felt busier. You had one empty section by the scoreboard in the Davin/Hogan upper corner and a small upper section on the Hogan at the Hill end and the rows they decided to sell last night the A, B and C rows. That would have been a total of 3 or 4k. How were they then going to get another 12k into the Hill/Nally end as it holds 13k in total. There was a large crowd in there and it looked 60% to 70% filled. I reckon the crowd was north of 75k. Adult tickets were €55, Hill €40 and OAP's €50, and juvenile tickets were €10. Do they count 5.5 children as one adult?

Makes no difference…. Point being Croke park not nearly sold out for either football semi finals… 55k on Saturday for 4 counties was pathetic… football dying on its feet because in general it's unwatchable… You could count the amount of neutrals going to matches now on one hand…. When neutrals stay away from matches you know the games in trouble …

Yes,I agree. It felt 75,000+. It has been
another great year of GAA activity. Far cry from the 20,000 to 30,000 attending semi finals in the seventies and eighties. Actually was a call to put both semi finals on the same Sunday back then. Many were losing interest, mainly because for many counties it was one and done. As we get further into the present football system we will end up with more counties coming through to the big quarter final and semi final weekends. There are still the anomalies of the different sizes of the provinces, but the round robin brings in a lot more fairness.

C.275,000 at the Provincials
C.190,000 at the Group games
354,575 at the Knock out stages.

When you put on multiple meaningless games throughout a campaign it totally distorts the average attendance figures…. Some pathetic crowds at some fixtures…. 55k for 4 counties last Saturday was pityfull and probably 75% of them were from Armagh… GAA are lucky it's a complete new pairing for the football final because if it was Dublin/Kerry again for example there would be no bother getting tickets… The style of football is killing the game … even Kerry people are saying they wouldn't waste money going to see such rubbish…. Football dying on its feet and people voting with their feet proves that…

Kilkenny v Clare, Croke Park 40,000 (Kilkenny supporter's do not travel in numbers) - ACTUAL 30,241
Limerick v Cork, Croke Park, 70,000 - ACTUAL 82,300
Armagh v Kerry, Croke Park, 5.30pm 60,000 (Tailteen Cup will account for 10,000+ and Kerry supporter's hold off to final) - ACTUAL 55,000
Donegal v Galway, Croke Park, 4pm 50,000 - ACTUAL 67,000

Decent crowds in general for the semi's.
Hurling drew the largest crowd for the Cork match and but also the smallest with the Kilkenny match.
Football attendances in the middle.

Agree with you on the amount of meaningless games, and the style of football doesn't help interest. Dublin fans have got bored, winning too much can do that (see Kilkenny and Kerry).
Football does have problems, always has. Whether it's dying on it's feet or not is another debate.
A novel pairing is a stroke of luck for sure, same as the hurling, which will put discussion on the problems in both Hurling and Football to the back burner for another day.
Disagree with 55K being pitiful for Saturday, very healthy crowd. The tintin cup has little or no impact on the crowd. If Down and Laois played an All Ireland semi they would be getting 55/60K no problem.
And don't pay too much heed to Kerry people saying they wouldn't pay money to watch such rubbish. When they were playing arguably the best football ever in the late 70s, early 80s they still didnt travel, apart from finals. When they were going for 5 in a row in 1982 the semi with Armagh had 17K.

The 2014 was ultra defensive and far from 'attractive' but the win was celebrated like none other in the Kingdom. Kerry were genuine contenders this year and will be in the mix again next year. Having the 'best player of his generation ' on board and local hero Seanie O Shea , a previous match winner should have been enough of a reason for anyone from Neidin to travel.
Special trains were laid on for Kerry fans to Dublin with more on standby. Spare a thought for folk from Gweedore wishing to cheer on O 'Baoill or Inishowen based supporters of McGonagle without a train in sight but many still managed to get there.
Kerry coasted through the first half, scoring with ease and turning over Armagh with great efficiency. The team needed a lift when scores dried up mid way through 2nd half , Armagh began to dominate and were roared home by that orange wall of sound. My ears were sore for hours after that crescendo greeting Turbid's lung bursting 95m run on the 89th minute to fist the insurance point.
I know some of those Kerry players, decent lads deserving of a bit more support before a final from fans content with 38 titles (22 of them over 50 years ago).
