Think this thread is a bit naïve to be honest.
The GAA wont give a blind care what the attendances are. What they have and didn't have previously, was extra rounds of games, with more counties active either in more games in the All Ireland series or Tailteann cup. The bottom line will be up. If you take say Dublin as an example - there was about 15k at Roscommon, 9k at Cavan and Mayo will be sell out depending n where it is. That's just one county. Counties doing well will pack the place out, Armagh, Donegal, Derry maybe even Cork after the weekend.
They are tickets that previously wouldn't be sold before a quarter final - even if a fair few got the 50 euro deal, add to that preliminary quarter finals, before the boon of quarter final onwards.
The GAA will be thinking to themselves, these are bonus games when previously nothing was happening as opposed to be worrying about attendances.
They are establishing the model, clearly the lessons they need to take is the frequency of games, in terms of times and finances and the condensed season. That i think will happen.
But in terms of the groups a small bit of something is better then the total of nothing.
So from their point of view they will see it as a success.

Firstly I am absolutely not a fan of this groups system but this weekend definitely endeared it to me a bit more.
Full houses in Cork, Navan and Mullingar. Navan fell flat because of the result but Cork was huge for promotion of Cork football.
Westmeath, good performance and actually makes next week really interesting because of the bazaar system. Potentially knocking out the league champions certainly keeps interest going in Westmeath (and Derry) football.
Dubs bringing the show on the road. Was good to see the colour. They brough their core support. Pity the game was a washout, Cavan at a low ebb. A better draw could have seen the Dubs going to Cork or Derry which would have made interesting viewing
I'd predict small crowds at neutral venues but there are some interesting clashes next week - Derry Westmeath - league champions could go Galway Armagh - plenty history, 2 good teams direct route to quater final Dublin Mayo - first test for the Dubs Tyrone Cork - Either team could finish anywhere from first to third
Remaining fixtures don't have a lot going for them. Interesting to see how how Louth shape up against Kerry I suppose.
Alternative group suggestion 3 groups of 5 might work, top 2 qualify + 2 best 3rd places.
Pros 2 home games each no neutral venues which won't draw flies. Even 2 strong teams like Cork and Tyrone won't draw a crowd for a group game over a 100 miles form both of them.
Cons Probably a more few dead rubbers but you have to live with those

Should be more than decent crowds for the majority of the upcoming round 3 games, if not it's time for HQ to start worrying and put on the thinking cap again.

Looking at the fixtures and venues a lot of games will only get NFL regulars I'd fear. My guesstimates... Galway v Armagh 7,000 Derry v Westmeath 4,000 Dublin v Mayo hopefully 15k Ros v Cavan 6,000 Donegal v Clare 5,000 Tyrone v Cork n/a as along with Hurling. Kerry v Louth 6,000 Monaghan v Meath 5,000.
Not sure about HQ thinking again as its a 3 year programme. No doubt there will be a load of new systems being floated next year. Mind you a bit of reduced pricing and marketing would be no harm. One of the main requirements for the Committee which proposed this system was providing more games in Summer for the players. It does that. Crowds have been around the same averages as the old knockout Qualifiers. I recall a double header in Portlaoise on a hot day in 2018 where we played Armagh and Tyrone played Cork where the attendance didn't reach 10k. So it's not as if there's been a massive drop in crowds. The 11k in Croker has a lot of folk wound up but a double header we were involved in there in 2022 had around 13k.

Marketing is key, need to get more bums on seats and championship matches in the summer should have more be getting more than spring time NFL games.
Should it really be hopeful for 15k to turn up to see Dublin v Mayo when its known the winner will be into the All Ireland quarter. In the Connacht semi final between Mayo and Roscommon with just a provincial final on offer got 14k in attendance in the same venue.

Only around 7,000 at Roscommon Kildare in the last game last year in Tullamore.
I remember that Armagh match, brilliant game and an unreal day, think the Slieve Bloom's were up in a blaze in the distance. Yea attendance was poor for a double header.

Mayo can get over 10k at league games, Dubs in championship out of Croke Park, as close to home territory as you can get. Hyde Park holds 18,890 according to wikipedia, surely that sells out, no?

Around 4,000 Meeyos were in Hyde last Saturday and around 8,000 Jackeens went to Breffni.

Mayo and Dublin have the highest number of people with season tickets and county passes. Not sure of what the total is but be close enough between them to 20,000 I would imagine?
Not all will take the option but it will guarantee a big crowd close to that and possibly exceeding demand. Its by far the biggest draw in football, league or championship, outside of finals.

They'll do well to get 15K for it. It's not a knockout game and both teams potentially will have 3 or 4 more games to play after it. Neither team will be full strength. Though hopefully the lack of jeopardy might produce a cracking game. I think a lot of supporters will skip thay game and wait fir the knockout games.
