Shock Results Of 2024

Mayo are still there. I have never bought into the pile on that was largely led by a certain media pundit who deployed his sneering contempt prior to moving on to new pastures.

Be fair to say that there was no love lost between Dublin and Mayo over the period of a serious rivalry, and I would imagine some of the personal relations were "fraught" as they say. But Dublin never treated or prepared for them with anything other than serious respect.

A lot of those sneering at their every misfortune are from counties who don't lose finals and semi finals because they are rarely or ever in them. Beaten before they leave the dressing room against any of the contenders.

True Barney and when the championship comes around all the big teams will be nervous if they have to play Mayo. That is a compliment in itself.Kerry are very hard to beat in championship football in Killarney and had nt lost there since 1995 before Mayo beat us comprehensively there last year and believe you me;that was a record Kerry did nt want to break.Mayo will be in the mix again come the Summer methinks.

In the meantime stop being killjoys and let us brighten up the dreary month of January by laughing at their loss to London.

You have to take the mocking and sneering on the chin. It's part and parcel of where we are at. When you lose that many finals you're open to ridicule and nobody is more frustrated than Mayo people themselves.

You can swallow your pride when Dublin, Kerry fans etc make fun…dare I even say Galway…counties who have won finals in the colour tv age. However some commentary from elsewhere is amusing especially from a county that have not won a championship match in Croke Park for 33 years! It's gas.

I would never have taken you for a wit after the fashion of Oscar Wilde, nor even your own Percy French :-)

Most people didn't have tv's never mind colour tv's the last time Mayo won an All Ireland yew-tree, just saying like as they say nowadays.
I have no doubt Mayo will be a dangerous opponent for anyone come Championship time and these pre season tournaments don't mean much except getting lads up to speed for the league and trying a few young lads out at the top level.
Still though getting beat by a div 4 team at home is not good no matter how you look at it, maybe the exiles are really improving? it was a big shock wasn't it last year the New York beat Leitrim in Connacht?
No doubt there will be a few more shock results as the year progresses,
keep the thread going, it will be interesting to look back here come August.

All true but I won't take slagging from certain counties. Your own in fairness beat us when it mattered in 2012. Mayo aren't winning any all Ireland anytime soon. Talking to people at the London game it's not the result that worried them but the style of play. Slow ponderous build up, hand passing back and across. Unable to break down a well organised defence…more of the same old problems.
