Corks trick of going long wont work against tipp, liam cahill will have ronan maher and co waiting for the high ball. This weekend is a massive weekene of hurling in both munster and leinster. Alot of them Minors haven't progressed since winning them Minors. Making the Minor squad in Galway would be a big thing and after that not many go on to make senior. We are an aging team and i cant see us winning anything for a few years. As a man said to me once " potential isnt worth a flying F unless you reach it"

I think I heard a stat, that there were only 2 players from those 4 minor winning teams on the Galway panel against Wexford. You're talking about 50+ players across those 4 panels. Given that those lads would be early to mid-twenties now, it's a fairly shocking statistic. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2187 - 15/05/2024 11:24:46 2544880 Link 0 |
Good news on the injury front. Both Daragh o Donovan and Mike casey back in full training. Sean another 2 weeks away and hopefully we'll be there for him to come back into the fold. The championship really starts Sunday and could end for any of the 4 remaining. Waterford is a huge banana skin for limerick and see the bookmakers have them 6 point favourites. Waterford have had very little luck this year and really should be already there. I wonder did davys reaction at full time in ennis show that they might have had their chance. Limerick need to really put down a performance Sunday for the rest of the year and simply to get through this match. If they are off Waterford will take full advantage. My gut says limerick will have a big performance Sunday. daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 21/05/2024 11:03:40 2546096 Link 0 |
Allow plenty of green space between the positional lines and Cork will go to town as you are allowing them to play to their strengths which probably no other team can compete with and that is sheer pace. Limerick looked far better when they sat a bit deeper in the second half and got their overlapping runs going and moved the ball better which allowed them to dictate the play more. Limerick also had an off day under the high ball in the first half hopefully that will be rectified. Waterford will fight for their lives to win this one and knock us out, they have looked very good so far. this is game to go all out on and just get a result. Tipp aside, its never been closer in Munster with regards the teams performances, Someone is going to be very disappointed on Sunday whatever way it pans out. mick casey im hearing is in line to start .....darragh will be kept on the bench . training has gone well and would be expecting a big performance on sunday. they will be chomping at the bit after the cork performance. no more second chances and limerick thrive on those kind of scenarios. munsterchamps (Limerick) - Posts: 1130 - 21/05/2024 14:12:46 2546161 Link 0 |
Makes sense that Casey would start: presumably Finn is out, Casey started v Clare so should be fairly sharp. Fergal O'Connor had a mixed game v Cork. Did some good things, and is one for the future but also made some mistakes and it might be seen as a risk to start him. Kiely and Kinnerk dont take risks unless they have to, and in all probability he will play a part off the bench. Yadse (Limerick) - Posts: 57 - 21/05/2024 15:09:26 2546177 Link 0 |
Casey for Finn likely to be the only changes on team named I would say. I think Adam English will be held in reserve. We did not get the same impact from our bench against Cork so this is probably something that will be key on Sunday that we have a strong finish to the game. It will be interesting to see if Davy will go with the same tactics to that against Clare. They were very open at the back and conceded some very soft goals. Will he go with a covering defending although Cork and Clare have shown that the only way to beat Limerick is to go 15 on 15. journeyman (Limerick) - Posts: 141 - 22/05/2024 10:36:30 2546320 Link 0 |
Quaid Casey Morrisey Nash Byrnes Hannon Hayes DoD WoD Hegarty Lynch Morrissey Gillane Flanagan O Neill That's the team I think starts. DoD is back in full training and I think kiely might put him straight back in. I think he provides huge support for hannon and the best link player in the team. I think if they can get 40 or 45 minutes into him then the option of Reidy English Boylan O Dalaigh etc to come on from 50 minutes on is a better option for me. If they feel DoD only has 20 or 25 minutes right now then Reidy starts. Reidy has struggled a little lately . Aidan o connor is also pushing hard and was interesting he got on ahead of o dalaigh v cork. Byrnes for me will come to play Sunday. He'll be a busy man but he has the class. That will help hannon massively along with DoD. Nervous but excited to see what limerick will bring. daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 22/05/2024 19:01:10 2546475 Link 0 |
I agree with that. The time for messing is over, if Darragh O'Donovan is fit, he has to start. LimerickandProud (Limerick) - Posts: 94 - 23/05/2024 15:21:16 2546623 Link 0 |
Limerick team out, no DOD in the squad. Casey in at corner back. O'Neill is listed as starting at midfield. I know he, Lynch and Reidy switch around a lot anyway but I think he was selected at corner forward in previous teams. Lynch is named at center forward and Reidy in the corner. Hope we do not have any controversy. Limerick are probably going to find that other gear. Not optimistic for our chances. If not I want this great Limerick to make history that already should have been done. Of course I want us to win but part of me don't want to be the team to stop ye and definitely no part in knocking you out of the All-Ireland series. Go for it Limerick as you are the best team ever. Watch out for Cork though and loose no sweat over the Munster championship. Clare are the next best team and deserve silver. We seem to never catch a break but I guess you have to make them. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2866 - 26/05/2024 18:31:43 2547329 Link 0 |
It went from a 2 point game to a 10 point game true pure grit, hard work, dirty ball winning. There's plenty of class in the team like all other top counties but I think that's what sets this team apart. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1466 - 26/05/2024 18:52:53 2547344 Link 0 |
Congratulations to all involved on reaching another Munster final..it's great to be hurling into June and it definitely makes everything worthwhile..I've said before this group owes no one anything and we in limerick are in bonus territory the longer it goes on..yesterdays performance wasn't totally perfect but the last 20 minutes was excellent..we all know about what the familiar names do every day but I thought Shane o brien and fergal o Connor were hugely impressive after being introduced..o brien was another player who made his c/ship debut and was another great change from management,he held up the ball and got super scores.I hope Flanagan injury isn't to serious, need him against the Clare boys..is dod almost ready?another option if he is..looking forward to Munster final in two weeks..great times for all limerick followers. Flanagan looked like he was holding his hamstring so doubt he'll play in the Munster final. Hopefully all is still on track with DOD. CON along with Kyle Hayes have been Limericks best players but if DOD comes back it gives us great options to move CON into forwards and more than likely play the Peter Casey role. Hayes has been in unreal form this year. When we've hit our straps against Cork, Clare and Waterford we still look in great shape if we can just minimise the lulls, especially after the first 10 mins we should be in good shape. Nash was superb yesterday but Waterford totally played into our hands on that one with their setup. Congrats to Shane O'Brien, looked right at home up there. Completely different type of player to Flanagan but he did very well and could start the Munster final. Fitzy01 (Limerick) - Posts: 411 - 27/05/2024 10:09:04 2547481 Link 0 |
Looking at our performance for the last two Sundays we have no hope against Limerick we go out to being 8/9 points up and then start to struggle if that was LK they would tack on another 1/2 dozen points and canter home only thing that might make a difference is the the intense rivalry between both teams. How in Earth did Davy think that he could play a sweeper against Lk and win everybody knows to have any chance you have to go 15/15. If limerick did lose the Munster Final i cant see it bothering them too much the real prize is the AI clooney (Clare) - Posts: 960 - 27/05/2024 10:14:04 2547486 Link 0 |
I think Davy was realistic to go with the extra defender. Waterford conceded no goals and it worked to a certain extent. Game would have been over at half time otherwise. Waterford were living off scraps as Limerick hoovered up everything in the middle third. Waterford though fell into the trap of hitting high balls in the second half which worked for Cork but Limerick had there homework done and dealt admirable with anything that Waterford threw at them. Not sure if Mike Casey went off injured but with Flanagan looking like a hamstring injury so the depth of the panel is now being seriously tested. Cathal O'Neill has emerged as a real leader within the team now and it was great to see Shane O'Brien having such an impact. journeyman (Limerick) - Posts: 141 - 27/05/2024 11:49:25 2547551 Link 0 |
You beat us in every aspect of the game with some to spare. I would say though Prunty did a good job on Gillane. We should've being qualified ever before this. It is said decisions even out but not if you are tied by a blatant square ball. A guess for a 65 that was correct but not how it is supposed to be down but worse still denied a 65 that would have left the scores even. This is not the way to exit a championship and if we are okay with this we may as well throw in the towel. It also means there will be no improvement because of this intransigent attitude.

I agree Canuck the Limerick game isn't why you didn't qualify. You should've beaten Tipp, you were the better team, then the bad decisions that went against you against Clare would've been irrelevant.
