I'm sure alot of clubs have managers/coaches lined up for the year, I have heard very little. Has anyone heard of any interesting appointments?

On hurling side David Redmond taking over St Annes, JJ Doyle the Harriers, Declan Ruth Rathnure. No change in manager for Oulart, Oilgate, Ferns or Gorey I think.

Looking at transfers last night. Kilanerin are transferring 48 players to Tara Rocks with The Rocks just transferring 14. Surely Kilanerin should be going it alone at this stage. They managed to stay senior with Tara Rocks and now have the players to go it alone. It hasnt worked out well for The Rocks, the players transferring seems to be getting smaller each year.

I said it at the time and this reinforces it. That amalgamation was for one purpose only, and it was to get Kilanerin back senior and a stronger club. And it would destroy Tara Rocks. Tara rocks should be focusing on developing their ties in the urban area of Gorey and in the schools and if that is accepting second place to Naomh Eanna, then so be it, but 2 teams can function in that town. What is happening now will kill them off once the amalgamation ends and it will be just Kilanerin.

There was zero need for that amalgamation to happen and it shouldnt have happened. There are far more clubs with way worse numbers in lower grades who arent contemplating that sort of action.

How has it not worked out for the Rock? they have won Inter A and won all group games in Inter last year and were v unlucky to lose to Fethard?

Wasn't the amalgamation to keep Tara Rocks afloat while they built up their own playing numbers? I don't think Kilanerin would've got relegated either way.

Think alwaysasub got the point of the amalgamation mixed up. It was supposed to be a temporary amalgamation to help out the Rocks while they got back on their feet, not the other way around. Most of the their best players the day the beat us last year were Kilanerin men. Devitt, Niall and Cian Hughes, Kinsella etc

Because its realistically Ballyfad moreso than Tara Rocks achieving all that.

Kilanerin were in Intermediate in 2016&17, the amalgamation happened in 2017 when Kilanerin went on to win Intermediate and actually went on to win Leinster. To me its essentially become an extension of the long running Ballynastragh Gaels entity at underage.

Because they only have 14 players at adult and hardly any at underage. It's basically just Kilanerin Ballyfad players hurling under the name of Tara Rocks.

I'm from the other end of the county TFW so wouldn't know which club/parish all the players are actually from but just out of interest how many Rocks players, ie from Gorey parish, played for Kilanerin in last year's SF?

I've no idea in regards to there younger players, of their older players I know Niall Breen, Brendan Hobbs and the Owley brothers are all Tara Rocks.

Am open to correction, but looking back on last year's programmes, I make it that out a panel of 30 named by Kilanerin for the senior football semi-final, just one player named to start was from Tara Rocks (Rhys Owley), and they had just two in the subs (Niall Breen and Brendan Hobbs).

Maybe even more telling is if you look at the "Tara Rocks" team that was named for the intermediate hurling quarter-final where they lost to Fethard -

Again a panel of 30, with just three starters named from Tara Rocks (the same three as mentioned above), and three more in the subs. The other 24 in the panel would all normally have been hurling for Ballyfad instead.

And yes, I think the whole arrangement has gone far away from what it was originally supposed to be - a temporary arrangement to help Tara Rocks get back on their feet and field in their own right again.

I remember hearing that at the Co. Board meeting last year to review the arrangement, the Tara Rocks delegate was asked "what's your five-year plan?" - meaning "what do you plan to do in the next five years to get back to fielding by yourselves?"

His reply was just "to be playing senior hurling". Seems that's their main aim - to get up to senior with the help of all the Ballyfad players, rather than doing anything in their own right again, even if "only" at Junior B.

Hard to see it ever changing now. It might be semantics but really they should not be allowed to enter competitions named as Kilanerin / Tara Rock and they should be Ballynastragh Gaels.
