Are Most Sport Reporters Aligned To Non-GAA Games

Tomsmith here

While I come from a County that has a publication ( Anglo Celt )that over the years has given our National game participants the Publicity it/they deserve, the same cannot be said for other Rural and National papers who seem to pride on the fact that they can get some Gaa incindents to write about.
Same goes for Oral broadcasters, sure one just bother to show Gaa at all and another seems to prefer to show the beautiful game .

I take it when no one disagrees with my statement that everyone agrees with me.
When we went to New York in 1947 and beat a fancied Kerry team off the field in the only All Ireland played outside of Ireland I am told that the Anglo Celt virtually ran a full edition the next week of the heroic victory.
At that time wireless were not terrible common and people gathered in houses that had a wireless to listen to the news of how the game was going.
And when Smiths lorry turned in to Townhall Street for the home coming is was odious how the crown reacted when it was mention how much of a bad press Cavan got before the game.
Sure it was suggested in one publication that the players were going over for the trip just to visit Aunts , uncles and it was suggested that some would be going to get land signed over .
Agh but Cavan defeated the press and the mighty Kerry that day in 1947 in New York

Is that an attempt to get more people to contribute to pointless threads Tom?

I think you're sound Tom.

I always liked the star for gaa and the local paper in a wexford is good.

For the most part I would say the national media coverage of gaa is in steady decline, both in quality and quantity.

They do love the rugby though. Visitors to Ireland don't realise its a tiny minority sport.

In my experience rugby followers seem to be people that didn't fit in anywhere else.

I normally enjoy your posts tomsmith and your wind up tactics, but I'm struggling to see where you want this one to go. And going back 76 years. Really ?? Mind you, my dear departed mother in law - a Cavan townie - often recalled those heady days when Cavan beat the Kingdom.

They cheated by standing on the pitcher's mound to kick points.

You obviously dont have any experience of rugby then
It's far from a tiny sport and is only behind gaelic, hurling soccer

Just stick to GAA and not worry about other sports if you don't like them

I follow rugby on account of playing it since I was 7. I follow 3 soccer clubs, 1 in England 2 in Ireland, and have been involved to a certain extent with all 3. I'm involved with my local GAA club and have followed the county teams since the early 90s. In Munster I always hoped Limerick would win, while I'd still follow Antrim hurling and Tyrone football from my days at Queens and working in Coalisland. I think I fitted in in a few places tbh Doylerwex!!!!

Perhaps my observations are a little misguided.

It's entirely based on a few people I know

How many 'rugby followers' do you know? One...two?

I don't watch rugby, hurling or soccer. The only time I check the soccer results is to see if Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland both have lost as I don't support either.
