Does that include league, because his championship score was a lot less than that. He scored 2-40 in the championship, with 2-17 of that from play across 8 games. The goals game in the hammering of Louth and the big win against Tyrone. Interestingly Con O'Callaghan scored 2-24 from play in this year's championship and nobody was suggesting he'd get an All-Star. I do think O'Shea was fortunate enough to get one. Con was quiet enough optically! He did play a key role, and a very different one than other years, Doubt he is complaining and a good example as said before that Dublin forward line was much more of a cohesive unit than rival teams. Basquel had stand out year obviously and that plus fact that he was first time up got him one, and deservedly so. Couldn't argue with any of the selections really. Not to say that a case could not be made for others of course.

Tommsith here I saw if these selection committee ( and I dont know who they are) can stand over their votes particulary the ones that dident vote for Paul Mannion I say show us the voting pattern. THis is all asked for in the face of transparency , and I feel that if this is not forth coming I say let us start a campaign of scrapping the all star football awards as it is presently not fit for purpose tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 3980 - 21/11/2023 17:11:34 2514066 Link 0 |
Tom. Instead of starting a campaign for scrapping the All Stars, you should start a campaign to have a totally new Tom Smith forum, hopefully on another planet. You could call it TOM FOOLERY.

1991, Down full forward line of Linden, McCarten and Whitnell didnt get any, in fairness they were up against ORourke, Flynn and Stafford. I think Greg Blaney did get one at wing forward, stragely Kildare got one that year and played just one championship game, Louth beat them by a point in Drogheda in first round in late May

What blame are you raving about? A chosen 15 that can't really be argued with. With the league now connected to the championship we'll see more players in the years ahead getting All Stars especially if they are receiving man of the match awards in Div 1 matches.

Mick Cunnigham from County Westmeath Tomsmith here from Cavan I ay that the All Stars selection is not fit for purpose as it now stands and I say that the Gaa is complicit in that process by having a shambles of a so called all star night when I believe that the best 15 footballers in Ireland were not selected for award. It is Tomsmiths view going forward that and I have already made a number of suggestion how to improve the process. But first lets see the voting pattern of the 20023 committee whoever they were . I will ask you this question, Mick I wonder how many of these unknown selectors say games that Westmeath, Wickla, Leitrim, Antrim, or Cavan were involved in As paying Gaa customers I feel we deserve to know who voted for who, and where did Ireland greatest exponent of the Gaa skills in2023 Paul Mannion fall down I rest my case for now tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 3980 - 23/11/2023 12:58:18 2514293 Link 0 |
Agree fully. But with one comment . Basquel got one because he deserved it ( as you said) , but being a 1st time All star had nothing to do with it. I dont think All Star selection committee let that sentiment prevail.....look at the hurling 15, only one 1st time All star.

Westmeath, Wicklow, Leitrim, Antrim, or Cavan were in the Tailteann Cup and eligible for the Tailteann Cup all stars...why would the selectors for the all stars on Friday watch them.

I am Talking about over the years not just this year, If you look at the injustices that were done in former years you will know that this process is not fit for purpose I have outlined my idea of what the selection committee tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 3980 - 25/11/2023 15:04:57 2514569 Link 0 |
I thought the selectors got it fairly right this year.Yes maybe Brian Howard Mannion or even Costello might have got one instead of Sean O Shea but id agree with the other 5 forwards including Enda Smith. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3842 - 25/11/2023 20:37:17 2514595 Link 1 |
Greg Blaney got an all star for centre forward that year. The Kildare player that got an all star was Martin Lynch. He played midfield for the Lily whites. That Louth and Kildare was played in Drawda in front of 18,000 people. It was Louths best win at home in the Championship in my lifetime. It was a quarter-final Leinster clash. Stefan White scored a winner in stoppage time. It was Mickos first Championship match in charge of Kildare.

When nyou see the nperformance that Mannion put in against Naas in Leinster Club final sure the All Star selectors would surely have got an answer tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 3980 - 03/12/2023 12:28:46 2515318 Link 0 |
