Football All Star Selection 2023

Tomsmith here from Cavan

Looking at the all Star recipients I just wonder what was the selection panel thinking off when Paul Mannion was passed over for an all star.
I saw the panel that picked the Hurling players and I dont know if the same panel picked the footballers but its odious to say the least how Mannion was passed over.
I feel that we as Gaa customers should have access of the voting of this selection committee as indeed a few of of them ( I dont know the make up of the football panel) that were identified as being the Hurling selectors would be very quick to be vocal on such an injustice like the omission of Paul Mannion..
I feel that such an omission would necessities at best the voting of each selector or the scrapping of this All Star fiasco

An All Ireland winning team with only 1 forward All Star is a bit strange to say the least.
I wouldnt think it has happened very often. But I believe it has.

And Mannion, as you say, should probably have received one to be fair.

Mannion had a great final but not a great year

I'd have had both Mannion and Costello in ahead of Seanie O'Shea who had an average year at best.

Basquel was stand out performer. What impressed me was that Dublin forwards were a good overall unit with even Con content to be less prominent. Anyway, it worked! Doubt Paul is crying into his pillow!

All who got awards deserved them, and those who didn't have had other days, or will have, I'd say Cliffords have forgotten all about theirs after their defeat to Castlemaine yesterday. That's the true mark of them, playing with their friends on a small club team. Rest is balloons and whistles, Same as that with Mannion who was key to Crokes getting over line in a testing enough game.

Cork got no forward on the 2010 All Star team.

Daniel Goulding kicked 0-09 in the final and 1-39 across the championship and didn't get one.

Ah come on, John Galvin got MOM in the Munster Final and also cieaned out the Cork Midfield Pair in the Qualifier, which Cork luckly won by a point Adian Walsh, a 19 year old from Cork got an All Star there instead. He was never heard of before or since. When the Players their All Stars Galvin was picked in it .

I agree - I thought SOS had an average year also, and probably lucky to get his.

Getting an All Star these days is the equivalent of getting a wedding invite from someone you might know distantly, nice to be asked but overall you can be that bothered.

I don't think an All Star recipient from one of the less successful counties like Enda Smith of Roscommon would agree with that analogy.

Tom Smith, Paul mannion has won a enough in the game, i doubt his not worrying about being overlooked for an all star on this occasion!

To answer the questions posed
1 He didn't get one because the "selectors" picked 6 other forwards
2 - No, the All Stars will continue.

Paul Mannion league and championship stats this year

V Kerry 0-5 (1f)
V Monaghan 0-3 (1f, 1m) subbed off on 68 mins
V Mayo 0-2 played the full game.
V Sligo 0-2 subbed off on 50 mins.
V Kildare 0-2 didn't start brought on at half time.
V Roscommon didn't score and was subbed off on 52 mins
V Louth 1-1 (1f), he was subbed off on 59 mins.
V Kildare 0-3 he was subbed off on 58 mins
V Laois 0-3 (1f) he was subbed off on 57 mins
V Derry 1-0 (a penalty) subbed off on 44 mins
V Louth 0-1 subbed off on 53 mins

Missed 6 league games.

Subbed off a lot didn't have 70 minutes in the legs for those matches? total scored 1-22 (1 pen and 4fs and 1 mark)

Was named MOTM on the live coverage of the All Ireland final and it was his best performance of the year but the Dublin forward that had the most score involvements and biggest influence in the win was Colin Basquel who was their most consistent forward all year.

Someone mentioned Sean O'Shea shouldn't have won one before Mannion? between league and championship O'Shea scored 3-51 he doesn't grab the headlines like David Clifford but if Kerry are to lose him they would a big void to fill.

Are Roscommon unsuccessful?

Don't know if I'd be on board with that description.

Cork, quite rightly, had no all-star forward in 2010!

Sean O Shea had a poor final and not a great year?

Agreed. Sean O Shea did not deserve an all star. Fullbackline poor too and to me the backs of yesteryear had far more qualities than the backs today. The level of defending has reduced drastically.
