Replying To Throughthemidfieldhewasstormin:  "Ballygunner as well as the other 3 probably see this as a great chance with Ballyhale out to add another title. A full strength Ballyhale are probably still 3/4 points better than every club team, Ballygunner included, and with them gone Ballygunner surely must be extra zoned in for this all Ireland. Not saying it happens with them but there'll be no eye down the road to another battle with Ballyhale and the chance of maybe being caught. I do think they're two biggest tests are yet to come in Thomas's (if they show up and no injuries) and I'd imagine O'Loughlins with a level of defence they've probably never came up against. Should be great games ahead. All that being said still hard to see Ballygunner beaten. 2 all Ireland's would bring them into the group of really great club teams like the many Ballyhale teams, Portumnas, Birrs, Athenrys, Sarsfields, Cuala and some of the Cork clubs of the 70s.
Any reason why they've moved the club semi finals back out of Croke Park? Think it's the right call"
Ballygunner v OLG should be in Wexford Park

It's odd when you consider Antrim clubs have done better than Waterford, Wexford or Limerick clubs in the AI series. And the same as Dublin and Clare clubs. Better than Dublin and Clare clubs too if you count final appearances.

Found out the reason it's not is the pitch is currently unplayable after the battering we got with rain.

All credit to Michael Mc Shane who stepped down as Slaughtneil manager with 9 County Hurling championships and 4 Ulster Championships under his belt. Massive achievements.

I won't dig into the detail of what he achieved, if you know, you know.

Going with Ballygunner by 7 or 8 and O'loughlin's by 2 or 3.

They couldn't find one ref from Leinster to referee a game between a Connacht and Munster team?

Brilliant game. All refs should take leaf out of the Limerick man's book!

Reckon a goal coming that will make the difference. Some great points from Ballygunner in last ten minutes but Cooney's frees from a fair distance in that wind were exemplary in second half.

It was, and it is a ridiculous way to end a game. Turns a fair hard fought contest into a lottery really, No reason at all they could not have found time in the calendar to have replays.

The football semi finals will be after Christmas and the finals are on the same day. I don't even find it exciting viewing having seen a few now. Certainly not a substitute for getting to see such an epic fought out again.

The all Ireland series really shows the fairness amongst hurling, like in in club Munster is very much the poorer relation in club. Ballgunner with the one semi final win out of 5. Galway and Kilkenny club hurling is some bear pit of class teams but then you see there contrasting records at county level and club brings up crazy results like Antrim teams being better than Limerick, Waterford, Wexford etc The club championship is the greatest one to win of all. Thomas's v Ballgunner one of the heat games....doesn't say a lot from the rest of Munster. The Ballygunner/Thomas's/Ballyhale games have been some contests, 3 great teams, what classics and moments between 3 titans. (BALLYHALE probably slightly the better of the 3) what an Era

It's no more of 'a lottery' imo than losing a hurling epic to a last second point in normal time. What's 'lottery' exactly about hitting 2 weak placed ball strikes? Ballygunner had the goalkeeping advantage, on all known form, but it was the two weakest ball strikes that still lost the day. I fail to see the lottery aspect of that.

If it went to a replay the same people who complained about it going to penalties would say the GAA only want replays because of the money it would bring in.

Taking penalty shots to decide a game is mostly 'a lottery'.
Do you think Limerick would have won 4 in a row, if all the games in the All-Ireland championship consisted solely of penalty shoot outs?

Slaughtneil also have pushed the others in semi finals. Dunloy did well last year in the semifinal.

No, I don't think they would, but you'd never say never with that Limerick outfit either. It's equally 'a lottery' winning/losing high scoring hurling epics by 1pt at the death, but no one ever comments that it's a ridiculous way to finish those games.

Don't agree with you barney.
Penalties are great drama and excitement, and yesterdays shootout was a brilliant way to cap off a wonderful game.
I've been to drawn games and the atmosphere afterwards amongst the crowd is very flat and dissatisfied, even tho the game might have been a cracker.
If nothing else it spares us from having to listen to the usual cliché "more money for the GAA"

All of the commentators and pundits on TG4 seemed to believe that it was a bad way to decide the game and that a replay would be preferable.

Do you think that they would accusing the GAA of staging a replay just to make a few bob? There is plenty of time for a replay, Football semi finals are not until after Christmas.

Nothing to do with the outcome. I had no preference between the two teams, and would loved to have seen them go at it again in another match. I doubt anyone would be remembering the epic penalty shoot outs of 1991 or 2003 or other years had such a rule been in place back then.
