Still that still means only 3 clubs have done it and Loughgiel are one of them.

I had to check myself. But I had a feeling James Stephens had a bit of a gap between titles. That said, 11 clubs have won the AI title more than once, but only 3 have won it in different generations.

Ballyhale have won it with 3 different generations Newyorkkat (Kilkenny) - Posts: 157 - 02/11/2023 12:32:31 2511284 Link 0 |
If we look at the strongest club sides in Ireland over the last 10 years who have won AI's. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 798 - 02/11/2023 12:53:55 2511290 Link 0 |
A misleading presentation, in that you have to stretch it back the full 10 years to find those Connacht wins. Cody's KK were still winning all-irelands the last time Connacht club sides were lifting this trophy. For all Thomas's domination of the Galway club scene in the past decade, their achievements in the national competition have been modest by contrast. I think over the last decade everyone's achievements a national level have been diminished by the Ballyhale machine. Ballygunner and St Thomas's probably feel they'd both have at least more than 1 a piece if in another Era without Ballyhale such has been Ballyhales stranglehold over it not withstanding both have had some sore losses to other teams over that time too, both loosing to Borrissileigh one year. Na Piarsaigh also the same but they never came up against Ballyhale. All 3 have fairly dominated their county championships for a decade now and Ballygunner and Nap have fairly divided up Munster in the last decade too. Two superpowers in Cuala and then another level up in Ballyhale probably where that level above the other 3 at the time. Cuala probably don't get much credit for their two wins back to back either. I do feel Ballygunner should win this year. I think a full strength Ballyhale are 3/4 points better than them and generally were able to keep them at arms length for majority of 3 games they played bar of course the famous Harry Ruddle last minute winner. But they're out so there's not much use in saying that. Should be one of the most open club races in a good few years now though. While Ballygunner, Nap and Thomas's are good, none of the 3 carry the same weight and fear factor than Ballyhale have, so teams probably have a bit more belief and take playing them over Ballyhale. It depends on what you mean by a generation. I would say Ballyhale have had 2 periods of AI club success. The first, 1981 to 1990 when they won 3 titles. The second, 2007 to 2023 when they won 6 titles. TJ Reid played in both the 2007 and 2023 finals, Colin Fennelly was an unused sub in 07, and played in 23. Completely different teams ? Which 3 finals?

That's 2 players Reid and Fennelly out of a panel of 30 odd 2006 & 2007. Ballyhale won it with 3 different generations. Adrian Mullen, Eoin Cody, Dean Mason, Paddy Mullen, Killian Corcoran, Ronan Corcoran, Evan Shellin, Brian Butler, Niall Shortall and Darren Mullen all played in the 2023 final V Dunloy and were aged 4 years old (Killian Corcoran) and 7 years old (Evan Sheflfin) when TJ Reid won the Club All Ireland with Ballyhale in 2006. TJ & Colins longevity in the game brought them into this third generation of Ballyhale successful kids (2018 to 2023). I think this third generation of young lads will go on to win more too when they get their pals back from abroad. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 798 - 02/11/2023 22:01:32 2511360 Link 0 |
What pals travelling? Fennelly is living in Dubai and is 34. Holden is travelling but is 33. Of course they will be competitive again next year but it will be the lads who were there this year will be doing it. I'd say Jimmy Meagher was a huge loss tbh.

Brian Cody, Ronan Corcoran and Joey Cuddihy due back from Australia next year Darren Mullen injured for the whole championship too.

Ballygunner very impressive today.sets up the possibility of a very good semi v na piarsaigh..it wasn't much of a test v sars who offered very little..ballygunner are strong all over the pitch, very good hurlers but also have a lot of fellas who work like demons..I'd like to know how they managed the last 2 months?dessie said afterwards 8 weeks since county first bal win..the training sessions must be fairly intense. You're right. When they are struggling to beat Antrim opposition they needn't fretting about the Munster contingent.

Terrible mismatch. A stricter ref would have left Sars down a few by end. Ballygunner/Na Piarsiagh be some game I'd imagine.

Put all of your knowledge of hurling on the back of a postage stamp and post it some where.
