There are plenty refs involved with their local clubs as coaches and selectors who I've heard giving dog's abuse to the actual ref. Kilcoo appealed their decision all the way to the DRA. Their appeal got threw out. The referee decided he didn't want to ref the game. Kilcoo appealed and that was also rejected, but the ref himself stepped down as he felt it would it overshadow his performance either way. It should never have happened that Mr Gough was going to "cross" the line and referee in Co Down. He should stay in his own county as there are plenty of good referees in Down. Kilcoo objected to the ref which for thrown out on the sat morning ( day before game ) that was the end of the matter regarding kilcoo position. From there the county board made every decision from contacting Gough on the friday just in case he was needed which is very strange as other refs in county were available, The county board took the original ref out of game even tho he was happy to do it with certain add-ons, and the ref who actually did the game on the sun was always the stand in ref.
