That's grand but stats are not always the whole story. Depends on opposition, minutes on pitch etc.

It could just prove what a pile of rubbish stats in sport are and that that they can be used to "prove" anything.

Something to be factored in is SA with all their shenanigans don't have their actual head coach ( Rassie) listed as this and instead its Nienaber who is officially the head coach.

Erasmus is Director of Rugby which is more like a manager/administrator. Nienaber is head coach. We will get to see how good or not Nienaber is close up, as he is replacing Lancaster as Senior coach at Leinster.

I know there official roles but could see in the England SA game when they showed the coaching box who was the head of the operation, Nienaber is a great signing for Leinster, defence seems to be something he's particularly strong on.

I understand your point, however if the dream team was picked at any time up to and including the Scotland game we would have more than 7 players on it, the call for full time in one game deprived us of victory against NZ, It's not an excuse for losing rather the reason. Do players train their guts out to make a dream team or to win world cups? I'd say the latter. Simply not good enough when it really counts.

Hurling definitely, Gaelic Football no as that is nowhere near a skilful game these days. Main proviso these days for Gaelic Football is can you run up and down a pitch for 75 mins, pass a ball laterally and backwards, if you can pass it forward then you are probably in the skilful bracket. You also have no idea what you are taking about if you think there is no skill in rugby, some of the top players in rugby are more skilful than any Gaelic or soccer player.

I couldn't agree more, I love all sports and in particular hurling, rugby and association football. I can't stand this begrudgery and in particular from GAA supporters who constantly bemoan the threat from other sports, the fact that rugby has two anthems, the fact that shock/horror some of the players went to private schools. It's actually quite sad that in this day and age there is probably a sizeable amount of GAA supporters out there who probably wish the ban was still in place, or that young people only played GAA sports. Fact of the matter is that rugby is an International game albeit on a small scale, whereas GAA has no international footprint, so Ireland doing well at rugby should always supercede local games. Much and all as I love Galway hurling (even if they do drive me demented) I would have still taken Ireland winning the World Cup over the Galway hurlers winning an All Ireland, as something that big brings great joy to the entire county, instead of just one county out of 32. At the end of the day nobody is forcing anybody to like or follow rugby, but this begrudgery and bordering on hatred for rugby is nothing short of pathetic.

They weren't far away from it. If you replayed it this week maybe they would win it. You aren't talking about a team like Limerick in hurling. Or even Dublin and Kerry in football this year. They were 1 of 4 teams that had an even chance of winning. And ended up being 1 of the 3 that didn't win it. Same as France and NZ.

A lot of it is down to insecurity. They feel inadequate so they'll attack first. It wouldn't be allowed if there were 15 or 20 schools churning out brilliant soccer players for a successful senior soccer team. Although, the same people would find a reason to whinge about that as well. Anyway, one of the biggest threats to Gaa will come from within. The increasingly bad behaviour is going to turn people off sending their kids to Gaa. It doesn't even have to get to the level of an incident going viral. The nastiness that's becoming more and more prevalent at virtually all levels will turn people away. I suspect some of the contributors to this forum would describe it as passion or pride in the parish. They need to get out of said parish a little bit more and stop howling at the moon. In South Africa's case they go hand in hand, ie they can't have one without the other. Although three of their games were only won by 1 point irrespective of how they trained.
