Based on the numbers entering in this year's championship alone, there were 8 clubs who fielded only hurling teams.
They were Ballinamere, Belmont, Brosna Gaels, Carrig & Riverstown, Coolderry, Drumcullen, Seir Keiran & Shinrone. Several of the other traditionally strong hurling clubs also fielded football teams at some level.

Replying To Leitrimforliam:  "Not the problem in leitrim. Only one club in Carrick-on-Shannon (St. Marys). Look set to dominate leitrim football they've reached 3 of the last 4 county finals winning one. They are also dominating underage and have 30-40 players at each age group. To make it even harder for the rest of the county Roscommonese kids are crossing the bridge in carrick to play with them."
St Mary's are dominating underage in Leitrim that cannot be denied. They have cleaned up every underage title at every grade in the past three years.

They have only won 6 Leitrim championships, never won two in a row. Mohill have appeared in 7 of the last 10 finals never mind 3 of the last 4 Mary's have appeared in.

Mary's have always had the biggest population pick in Leitrim with carrick town and the huge parish that goes with it- from Jamestown to effrinagh but have never dominated. Maybe that will change but 120 odd years off football says it won't

The sizes of the largest clubs in Dublin really counter balance the fact there are less than 100 clubsvin Dublin. Crokes have close to 5k members with nearly 200 or so teams across both genders and 4 codes. Boden, Na Fianna are quite close to that. But size doesn't equal success, even though I know all these clubs see the size of their membership as success. Its not about money, its about community too. I do feel for struggling smaller clubs we need a vibrant thriving club scene. I also despair to see a lot of counties struggling at club/county level. Numbers just paper over the problems.

Do you happen to know how many GAA clubs in Dublin field football teams?

lazy to think these clubs see size of their membership as "success", and naiive to think that it means "money". by far the biggest cost to these clubs is renting pitches to accommodate the 100 girls and 100 boys at each age group, because land is so limited. membership just keeps these clubs running like any other club, just a very large scale.
