Great admiration for people who keep hurling going in unfavourable places." Skea did have a club for years. They disbanded a number of years ago. I believe a lot of their players play for Knocks Grattans who were recently formed.

Lets see if we can get a complete set here." Galway is 46. The figure of 40 is is correct if you just include teams competing in Senior, Intermediate and Primary Junior. But there are 6 clubs whose 1st (only) team competes at lower Junior level. If you include 2nd,3rd ,4th and 5th teams the total number of adult teams is about 108.

Replying To DundalkGael: "Same issue in Dundalk regrding soccer.
After Dundalk Gaels got relegated from the senior championship, none of the 5 clubs in Dundalk will be playing senior championship next year. 4 Intermediate and 1 Junior.
In Drogheda it's nearly the same problem, of the 5 clubs only 1 will be senior next year (they stayed up after winning q relegation play off too) 1 Intermediate and 3 junior." Soccer is always to blame in Dundalk & Drogheda.

My original post said Galway with a similar number to Mayo around 45 so can update.
Can anyone explain the downfall of both Ballinasloe and Fr Griffins as once powerhouses of football in Galway.
Would Ballinasloe be more hurling now, Did Salthill overpower Fr Griffins?

I asked a football man from Kilkenny, yes there are big ball men in the county, your question for you and this is what he said- "The funny thing about football in Kilkenny, nearly every club will play football at schools level and up to U13 and the standard is fairly good and they get to play a decent amount of games it's from U15 and up is the problem, where lads are told to prioritise hurling and not waste time on football and then there are very few matches that are put on for them at U15 and minor level and then after that most young lads are lost forever. With regards to dual clubs most hurling clubs would enter a football side in the adult competitions but I wouldn't really consider some them a dual club as they wouldn't put a whole lot of emphasis on football, Mullinavat would be maybe the only one who would prioritise both. The clubs who entered the adult competitions this year were:
Senior: Mullinavat Thomastown Railyard (football only club) Muckalee (football only, St Martins are their hurling club) Kilmoganny (Football club, Dunnamaggin is their hurling club) Erins Own Dicksboro James Stephens Danesfort Tullogher Rosbercon O'Loughlins Clara Mooncoin
Intermediate: Lisdowney Piltown Graigue Ballycallan Carrickshock The Rower Glenmore Conahy Barrow Rangers Blacks & Whites
Junior: Railyard (2nd team) Muckalee (2nd team) Bennettsbridge Windgap St Patricks Ballyragget Galmoy Emeralds Young Irelands"

Didn't even know European teams participated in that competition.

Replying To Leitrimforliam: "Not the problem in leitrim. Only one club in Carrick-on-Shannon (St. Marys). Look set to dominate leitrim football they've reached 3 of the last 4 county finals winning one. They are also dominating underage and have 30-40 players at each age group. To make it even harder for the rest of the county Roscommonese kids are crossing the bridge in carrick to play with them." There's just as many kids from Carrick heading out of town to play with other clubs Liam.

33 different football clubs took part in the Offaly Adult championships this year.
This does not account for parish clubs and other amalgamations that exist at underage level (up to u-20) nor does it account for several other clubs that fielded only hurling teams in the championships this year.
