My local club hasn't had a player who has played for Derry in a men's championship game in almost 50 years I think." I think Derry have 37 going by their website - 14 Senior - 13 Intermediate and 10 Junior.
Always found Derry to be fascinating geographically, the county team is essentially a South Derry team.
Steelstown and Coleraine the exceptions of non south derry clubs at senior.
Alot of the clubs around Derry City are Junior also.

Is Derry City soccer mad?
Is north Derry more protestant heavy?

Replying To Viking66: "Nearly all the clubs in Wexford are dual clubs, and there isn't much of a difference between the overall number of teams playing hurling and football. In both codes there are 12 teams in each of the Senior, Intermediate, Intermediate A, Junior, and Junior A grades. Junior B is organised on a district basis firstly, with a District final in all 4 districts, followed by QFs involving the top 2 from each district. Winner of the overall Junior B title gets promoted to Junior A. There are 49 clubs in total, though I think Clonee only field ladies teams these days." Had a look at this for Wexford ...as Viking said 49 clubs listed in total but Clonee don't field adult men's team so 48 clubs really
40 Clubs are proper dual - these 40 field at least one hurling and football team but most field 2 or more teams at different grades every year. Gorey, Martins, Glynn field 3 or 4 teams in hurling and football each year from senior down to junior b.
Since split season introduced clubs like Oulart and Rathnure are now fielding football teams and Oulart entered 2 football teams into the 2023 championship as they won the junior b football n 2022 and are in the Junior A football semi's this weekend.
There are 8 clubs then that are hurling/football only but most of these club players play with another club for the other code - this is mainly in Wexford town where lads can play Senior hurling with the Harriers but then football with a football only club in Wexford town like Sarsfields or Maudlintown. Or lads hurling with Clonard could play football with Volunteers etc. Same with all the Kilanerin football players hurling with Tara Rocks
Hurling Only Clubs FAYTHE HARRIERS NA FIANNA CLONARD TARA ROCKS
Football Only KILANERIN-BALLYFAD SARSFIELDS ST. JOHN'S VOLUNTEERS ST. JOSEPH'S ST. MARY'S MAUDLINTOWN

There are 38 football clubs in Louth. The breakdown is 12 Senior, 12 Inter and 14 Junior. There is only 3 Hurling clubs. One of these St Fechins is a dual club. Knockbridge hurling and St Brides football are both based in Knockbridge village.

Galway has about 40 real football clubs. 17 senior. 15 intermediate (there are 16 teams but Corofin's 2nd team are one of these albeit they are in real danger of being relegated now). 8 teams in primary junior.
There are other football clubs whose "first team" play at lower levels of Junior but realistically these are the football wings of hurling clubs. They may or may not field depending on the year & you certainly won't be getting any county senior players out of these clubs. Granted - Gary O Donnell and Cillian McDaid are two outliers who made it despite being from hurling club areas, albeit both had to move to other football clubs to make that a reality.

Could the argument be made that Wexford are under performing when it comes to football based on this information or is it just too difficult to keep both codes going competitively.
I know hurling is the more popular sport down there but Wexford had a very competitive football team in the late 00's getting to the All-Ireland semi final and rattling the Dubs on occasions.

Leitrim has 23 clubs running out of a population similar to Navan.
I remember this on the Leitrim gaa website from the 1996 census
" If you consider that the number of males between the ages of 18 - 32 in the whole of County Leitrim is only 2310, that means there is a team produced for every 42 males of normal football playing age, resident in the County"
Quite astounding

Just looked at the starting 15 against Kilkenny in last round of hurling last year. I'd say at least 12 played underage football up to minor /21's for Wexford with some winning a Leinster under 21 back in 2011. Good few have won senior champ in Wexford or play senior football and would make the senior football panel/team if they switched code and would be big addition to get out of division 4. Ryan, Chin , O'Hanlon, Donohue, Liam Og. Saying that Shelmeliers did well in Leinster Club champ last year and some of the stand out performers in Senior Club Football champ this year are more interested in football and some are playing Fitzgibbon etc so I think the future is bright enough for the footballers.

I know Cavan have 40 Longford around 22 I think Leitrim 23 or 24 Fermanagh 20 Meath in the region of 50-60 Mayo around 45 Galway something similar to Mayo" Westmeath has 32 football clubs. 12 senior 12 intermediate 8 junior The bigger clubs would have 2nd string teams in the junior championships also.

A separate thread could be made on how many hurling clubs per county; as it would be equally as interesting." A good topic and interesting to see. It would be interesting know how many of these clubs were in the same parish.

According to the DCB website there are 87 GAA clubs in Dublin at the moment.
If I'm wrong name the remaining 115 you think are there.
