Goalkeeper - hard to say that Brooks was the better keeper based on yesterdays game. I know some of that was down to his players not making the runs but he went long when he should have being going short and when 14 v 14 they didn't win their own kickout. Mc Cabe wouldn't be a known shot stopper but the most important issue now is kickouts. I would also have Glen Malone than Conor Carty.

I taught Malone was poor yesterday, agree goalie is a tight call but Brooks only conceded 2 goals in 8 games compared to 6 out of 8 for McCabe.

Fair points on Lyons and Roche, semi final was probably the main reason I picked Keane Carroll, taught, him, Donohoe & O'Gara were the 3 most influential players in that comeback.

I think Pauric Hughes and Mark Rossiter have to make any team of the year. John Roche was also very good. SunnySouthEast (Wexford) - Posts: 16 - 16/10/2023 17:05:44 2508702 Link 0 |
Fair point on Hughes oversight on my part, in hindsight I'd have him in ahead of Carty, Rossiter is unlucky but Cian Hughes and Scholesy were outstanding for Kilanerin and I think Brosnan had a slighly club better year than him.

I was under pressure for time so i was at the exit ready to leave just at the final whistle. What did I miss ?? Yellaman (Wexford) - Posts: 126 - 16/10/2023 18:35:27 2508720 Link 0 |
As a neutral . The game was entertaining and one of the better finals apart from the usual antics from both sides. Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 299 - 16/10/2023 20:11:41 2508740 Link 0 |
Hold on now buddy. Do you want me to send you on footage of a particular Shels player, who has received fierce criticism on here for his theatrics many a day, somehow escaping getting sent off? Its floating around twitter. Or the numerous errors the ref made besides that? I acknowledged that Shels were the better team on the day, but there was no class to them at all. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1455 - 16/10/2023 22:24:37 2508749 Link 0 |
Had a previous reply not posted by mods too. Didnt make the game myself. been speaking to a fair few were at it and i just saw the videos of those 'tackles' from SD that have been circulating on twitter. Am wondering if he stayed on the field as a result of the early red card and the ref was trying to keep things even. IMO both tackles were red cards and how he obviously didnt get even a yellow for one of them is mind blowing.

Yes Paraic Hughes would prob have to be on the team, Mark Rossiter would be pushing strong also

Just to say I am from neither club involved but I would imagine alot of the Shels antics were in response to Castletown the year before. People have very short memories. A certain former county player threw a ball in on the pitch when time was up last year and caused a row, along with numerious other incidents in the game. So I would say both teams are no saints when it comes to the dark arts over the past few years!. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 443 - 17/10/2023 10:03:08 2508766 Link 1 |
Seen 2 tackles on video that were both straight reds. Had he left the field for either of them it possibly would've affected the outcome of the game. I wouldn't be happy if I was a Castletown man.

Yes, the Shels player we're talking about has been getting away with it for a few years now in both codes. Yes, the ref made errors ....... on both sides ( Imo he's a senior standard ref anyway ). You mention class. I didn't see much class on display from either team, and appearantly there wasn't a lot of class shown after the final whistle either. Have seen those videos and was at the match myself. Didn't realise the first one was so bad until I actually saw the video - I was sitting towards the far end of the stand and didn't have a good view of how he hit the Castletown man. But I clearly saw the second one all right, and was amazed at the time that it wasn't a red card. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2615 - 17/10/2023 10:53:42 2508778 Link 0 |
Just a general point, not directly related to Sunday: I reckon that in any match, a referee might make five or six errors in terms of frees awarded or not awarded, or cards not issued. I'm talking genuine errors, not perceived errors as seen by those wearing glasses tinted in one colour or the other. The losing team (anywhere from 15 to 20 players) will probably have made 30, 40, or even 50 errors, in terms of misplaced passes, bad wides, not tracking their men properly, etc. Yet when they lose a close match, the focus is always on the relatively small number of errors made by the ref, rather than the relatively large number of errors they've made themselves. It's always easy to blame somebody else, but sometimes you have to accept it was your own mistakes that cost you the match, and not somebody else's. The culprit in both of those videos could easily have been sent off before either of those incidents happened. Onfor15 (Wexford) - Posts: 533 - 17/10/2023 11:47:49 2508796 Link 1 |
2 poor tackles warranted cards . Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 299 - 17/10/2023 11:50:35 2508797 Link 0 |
Pikeman, that last sentence of yours just about sums it all up. Well said sir.
