In this instance it I think it would be a bad idea, good chance it would collide with a France/South Africa World Cup QF, if it was a typical October evening alot of neturals might take the sofa option, I'd play it as normal on Sunday let it clash with England/ Fiji.

Not true, because was decided a few weeks ago to play the Premier Minor Football Final as the curtain-raiser to the Senior Final. That fixture is even listed already on the underage fixtures page of the Wexford GAA website - Duffry Rovers v Glynn-Barntown in Chadwicks Wexford Park on Sunday 15th October at time TBC. Presume it and the senior final will be played at "ordinary" afternoon times on the Sunday, with the two Intermediate finals going as a double-header at ordinary afternoon times on the Saturday. But either way, definitely not the case that Intermediate and Senior Finals are going together, whether under lights on the Saturday night or any other time. Id heard it was the plan a few weeks ago. Bit disappointing to be honest, thought it would be a good move tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1423 - 05/10/2023 16:06:58 2507076 Link 0 |
In fairness, I think it was considered all right, but it was never actually a plan. Might have been more chance of it happening if it wasn't for the rugby. There's still a chance Ireland might be playing on that Saturday night, depending on how result v Scotland goes. But maybe that's one for the 'Non-GAA' thread....! Yeah in terms of clashing with a potential saturday night quarter final rugby game in the world cup it is the right call to be fair. And i know people will come out with the usual stuff about other sports blah blah and not changing for them but the fact is most people on this island have interest across a number of sports so if we are being clever it is a consideration. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1423 - 05/10/2023 16:48:45 2507085 Link 0 |

Rugby the 2nd best sport to watch in the world after hurling these days.

If you want a very small crowd at it then it's right thing to do, when they released the most watched programmes on Irish TV for 2022 the top 5 in no particular order is basically Ireland's 6 nations games, the 2 AI finals and the Toy Show.

I played it for 15 years so I'm a little biased! But it used to be tied equal 2nd with football and soccer as a watch for me back in the 90s. Soccer and football have gone too tactical at the top level now. I enjoy rugby more these days. Nothing compares to hurling though.

After a great run last year fethard will be very disappointed to go straight back to intermediate. Overall I thought Crossabeg were the better team. The black for crossabeg in the first half and what I thought was a soft enough penalty just before half time had Fethard in a really positive position but they didn't build on it. I thought Mark Byrne was excellent for Crossabeg, scored a couple of important points from frees in the second half when the game was in the melting pot and also got a couple of nice points from play. Paddy Devereux and Oisin Foley also had good games. JT22 (Wexford) - Posts: 49 - 06/10/2023 21:17:16 2507211 Link 0 |
feel sorry for fethard, they did not take their chances and for the first time i ever saw seemed to throw in the towel near the en d, but at same time delighted for crossabeg they have been so unlucky this year and last, right good game really enjoyed it Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2889 - 06/10/2023 22:34:43 2507213 Link 0 |
Crossabegs athleticism won out in the end and they were fitter than Fethard. Mark Byrne had a good game and chipped in with a few points. Devereuxs played well and Robert murph got up the field well. To be honest Fethard looked like a team that will stay in intermediate for a while. John Tubritt carrying them up front and they rely on him too much for scores from play. Then and again they were relegated two years ago and won the Leinster intermediate. Best of luck to them . WexMurph (Wexford) - Posts: 237 - 07/10/2023 11:45:44 2507235 Link 0 |
