Yes. Keeping lads at it when drink and women get involved seems to be especially a problem in urban areas.

A 5.45 p.m. start in New Ross this evening, with no floodlights, has to be looking very dodgy now.....? Wouldn't fancy it myself anyway! Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2615 - 24/09/2023 13:13:53 2505428 Link 0 |
Wonder could they move it to nearby Cushinstown with floodlights.

Senior, Intermediate and Junior draw has ended up with the top two in each group on track to meet each other in the Semi finals. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1900 - 25/09/2023 05:03:01 2505509 Link 0 |
Bit of a anti climax yesterday for the football. Weather probably didnt help. I see a former Wexford footballer complaining on X about playing football this time (not the first time) in the year but to play hurling in that would be way worse. My own preference is for both to be played alternatively as thats the fairest way. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 443 - 25/09/2023 10:11:33 2505536 Link 0 |

Seen a picture of Wexford park yesterday and it looked like there was water lying on the pitch can't imagine what New Ross or Bellefield were like especially for the second games

One name came straight to mind when I read what you said about somebody posting on X, so I checked his account, and yup, it's him all right. But....it's September. Yesterday was a particularly bad September day all right, but it's not unreasonable to run a championship in September. Particularly when you consider that in "the old way" (i.e. pre-split season), everybody wanted and burst their gut to be playing into October anyway, because that's when the county finals were. Also not the case that football only ever gets bad weather through having to go second. Two weeks ago, it was so hot that Co. Board re-introduced water breaks for the football matches that weekend. And let's say this year's championships were run on a basis of either alternating weeks or alternating blocks of two weeks. Football would have gone first, because the football championships have to finish first. Assuming that the championships would have started on the same weekend (Friday June 30 - Sunday July 2), this would have been a football weekend either way anyway. If that lad only wants to play football in good weather, maybe he should think about a transfer to somewhere like Madrid Harps or Dubai Celts :) Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2615 - 25/09/2023 11:07:28 2505558 Link 0 |
I was in the park yesterday ridiculous that the games went ahead, not being a hindsight merchant Saturday morning you could see on the forecast 3-6 Sunday was the worst conditions of the weekend, Senior games should have been moved to an earlier time on Sunday with that in mind. Seen those comments too, taught they were a bity silly when your consider I'd imagine every single county in the country in the middle of club adult activity at the moment and we literally had a heatwave weekend only 2 weeks ago, I'd agree games yesterday should have moved times due to forecast but don't think it needed to trigger a wider debate,

I'll add on this ironically in July 2009 that player probably played in some of the worst conditions I've ever seen in the park for a qualifier double header v Roscommon in football and Limerick in hurling, 4 seasons type weather has to be accounted for in Ireland.

Yeah, whatever about the weather, have to say myself that I thought as soon as the fixtures came out that 4 p.m. and 5.45 p.m. were strange choices of start times for the Sunday, particularly since nothing else on other than all the Junior games starting at 12. Something like 2.30 and 4.15 would have been more 'normal' and would still have left time for a referee at a Junior match to get to a senior venue if he was needed there as linesman. Didnt see the comments but in regards to playing football or hurling in club championship September is prime month for that no matter what. I think the real frustration is the lack of breaks and flexibility, games yesterday should have been moved, but to when? There is no breaks, no space to adjust or change or give players and managers etc a break, as much a bloody break for the head as anything physical. Its bonkers what we are doing in wexford really imho. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1423 - 25/09/2023 12:10:53 2505589 Link 0 |
But even during alternate weekends pre 2020 there was adult championship every weekend once the Wexford Senior teams were finished, the breaks were for players more focused on 1 code over another or if a player was carrying a knock he might sit out a football game to save himself for hurling the following weekend or vice versa.

Especially as there are so many meaningless games towards the end of the group stages. 6 is too many to have in the groups.
