Ban The Hand Pass In Hurling. What Are The Alternatives?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

If the handpass was banned altogether it would be imperative on the player to keep the ball moving and not take it in to contact. I'd allow a pass off the hurl only. At the moment, players take the ball in to contact looking for a free and if it doesn't work out they give a hand pass.
I would also reduce inter county hurling to 13 players to allow players time and space. The game has changed from 15 a side, it is too many.

Does it matter? The good teams can 'shovel pass' it much better anyway.

Same solution as football should implement.

Handpass all day long if you like, but you can only handpass backwards. Job done. Simple. Tactics will evolve.

Football is a disaster, only diehards can bear to watch it nowadays. Myself included, follow for tribal reasons rather than any love of the game anymore. Spoke to ex-Dublin footballer, says its unwatchable. Hear this everywhere.

Hurling thankfully still fantastic to watch - but correct to nip this disease in the bud in case it ever went the way of the embarrassment football now is.

Not sure about reducing to 13 but your spot on about the handpass.

A backwards only handpass in football would be a great idea. I've never heard that one I'm sure. But anyway, that's football. I haven't been following this thread; do we need to ban or amend the hurling handpass?
