It's interesting to hear that he also highlighted a few goals that Limerick missed. It's great to have someone who can provide insights into both teams' performances. Regarding the penalty award to Gillane, I can understand why some experts questioned it. These decisions can be quite subjective, and it's always a topic of debate. As for his gamesmanship, Clare better watch out in the upcoming Munster Final. Joe Canning's experience and knowledge of the game could give him an edge. It'll be exciting to see how things unfold. fuoos (Kerry) - Posts: 5 - 27/06/2023 22:31:38 2490264 Link 0 |

Limerick won the recent Munster Final by a point. Clare play Kilkenny in the AI semi final. The great Joe Canning is now a pundit on the Sunday game live matches.

Just like yourself the great Joe hasn't gotten over 2018 and you need to bring Limerick down to make yourselves feel a bit better. We should have gone away then after bridging a 45 year gap. But to have the audacity to keep coming back must be a very painful thorn in your side. Three goals that could have been disallowed you really need to get over yourself.

Westmeath Tyrone game beat all. One of the best games I've seen in Breffni a long time, SG didn't go close to doing it justice. Didn't even show Heslin's free at the end. Ray Connellan's catch midway through the second half worth the admission fee alone, not shown. Analysis: Tyrone were sloppy. If anything it was Westmeath who were sloppy. Travesty that that team could be back in the Tailteann cup next year but that is a whole different kettle of fish. 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 377 - 28/06/2023 22:20:24 2490535 Link 0 |
Brolly summed it up well when he said you were almost told what to say!!

The main issue aside from pundits' personalities with the Sunday Game (night time show) is that they try to cover too many games. I thought at the start of the season that they were addressing this issue by having a Saturday Game but for some reason; maybe cost, they only had it on certain weekends, it was hard to know when it was on and just when the championship was getting to the boiling point, it was gone from our screens. So, we are now back to the Sunday Game being the only programme responsible for covering all aspects of the gaelic games in one programme. Not only is the male hurling and football championship being shown and analysed but there is the ladies equivalent of camogie and football. From an editorial point of view it is impossible to cover all these different games both men and women in such a condensed period of time; especially with so many games now on show. I think the main problem with the Sunday Game is that it is trying to serve multiple masters in a ninety minute show once per week and it is actually not doing justice to anyone. With the current saga around RTE, it is hard to see it being addressed any time soon as money is the common dominator in increasing the number of programmes but how can you achieve this with limited resources. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2023 - 29/06/2023 10:57:26 2490577 Link 0 |
That is a huge problem. Zero craic. Canavan and Keegan seem to be able to have a bit of a laugh but you feel they are straight jacketed as well. It must be heavily scripted. Another issue with some of the analysis and this is going back to the Spillane, Brolly, O'Rourke days is too many pundits (keep in mind this is their passion and job) have no clue or knowledge of the teams outside of Dublin, Kerry, Tyrone, Mayo and maybe Galway. Common themes on analysis of counties outside of that clique is getting player names wrong, lazy stereotypes that have no basis in fact and general bluffery (you can tell they don't have confidence in what they're saying) or in the old days condescension. To be fair one pundit who is very well informed on most counties is Eamonn Fitzmaurice. Canavan and Whelan to a lesser degree. I do think Fitzmaurice is good. You can hear the manager coming out in him, sees things others don't and is generally fair, and can have a laugh at himself. Others on football can be stuffed shirts. One of few brighter moments in Limerick last week was when a crowd of Dublin young fellas managed to attract the attention of Joe up in the crow's nest and he gave them a big smile and a wave. Chat GPT could genuinely do the Sunday Game analysis now. The sanitisation of RTE has killed off something they were very good at, across the board, Rugby, Socccer and GAA analysis has become stale and vanilla where as at one stage they excelled at all 3. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1427 - 29/06/2023 16:28:52 2490695 Link 1 |
It's the age of boring sanitised analysis and don't say anything controversial. I remember if you were in the pub you'd hear a pin drop at HT with everyone listening to what they had to say on the Sunday game. I honestly have not watched the night time Sunday show in two years. There are some great podcasts out there with detailed analysis and commentators who agents afraid to say it as they see it. The robotic Sunday game is dead…in fact by the looks of things so is RTE. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11407 - 29/06/2023 17:33:34 2490718 Link 0 |
Definitely helps he's managed and he obviously keeps an eye on a lot of games, even from the lower tiers. That was good craic with the crowd in Limerick. Daly also very entertaining. They need to give the football pundits a couple of pints before the show to liven them up. Wonder is it a generational thing? Brolly, Spillane, Farrell, Mulcahy all came from an era where players still went for pints and had the craic which was reflected in their studio interaction. The newbies very much a reflection of the drinks ban straight and narrow serious age.

A big Cork love in on The Sunday Game abd RTE Radio 1. The bias is shocking. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9785 - 02/07/2023 14:39:08 2491338 Link 1 |
Same as that, honestly can't remember the last time I watched the Sunday game. They won't show any contentious refereeing decisions or big hits, it's gone beyond sanitised and it's paiiinfully boring. I honestly couldn't care less about the 'percentage of scores outside the scoring zone'. puke
