My issue with the mark related to Clifford and other great footballers is the fact that option clouds the judgement. Do I catch, turn, kick or catch, turn and try to beat my man.

Catching and then having a slow ponderous kick at goal is not great for the flow. Think of Donaghy in 2014 against Mayo. Thank god the mark wasnt there then. I want to see Clifford at his best. I want to see him only thinking about catching and taking on players. That kind of thing will improve the spectacle and with confidence, improve him as a player."
Would reducing it to 13 a side not go a huge way to combatting the packed defence and negative play in general? Obviously you can still get men back but given the size of GAA pitches there will be a lot more space to cover making it more difficult to smother space. It also has the knock on effect of helping smaller counties and even clubs with player availaibility issues.

Bit late to post.
Just wanted to say Kerry fans are the most gracious in defeat. Genuinely met some true gents on the hill 16 on Saturday as with 2002 I know they wouldn't begrudge us that win. They are at the business end year on year because they set the benchmark year on year. One of the reasons I picked up a ball was because of watching them and their 00s team with Gooch / O'Se's / Mike Frank / Donaghy. They are the reason most of us tune in each year. A true great county and a pleasure to play them. See youse again next year lads and you'll be back better than ever. We are lucky to have Kieran Donaghy and only a matter of time before he's leading Sam home to the kingdom again.

If there was no packed defences there would no need for a mark but there is packed defences. If Clifford was given a ball in and had room to take his man on he would even if he had the mark. The problem is that you just don't have room to take your man on. At least a mark rewards a catch and a kick and that is much better than the overuse of the handpass.
I don't understand why teams don't look to use the mark more to be honest.

Disappointing weekend for both us and Kerry. At the end of the day we didn't have the players able to compete against the better teams. Kerry didn't look fit compared to Armagh and Sean O Shea is very overrated.. like Donegal you need to unearth another scoring forward.

SOS is an excellent freetaker, prob best out there. Stuggles from play, think lacks a bit of pace.

Yes, great achievement. Congratulations to the Kerry ladies! Any chance the lads would take a 31 year break as well? (Wink)!

Big win for Fossa and against KOR. Tom Welsh was a loss for KOR not starting the game.

Couple of surprises in that team. Keith Evans midfield, Paul O'Shea back in the fold & Emmet O'Shea from Fossa has been a good club player the past few seasons. This sounds like a team picked by Cian O'Neill rather than Jack to me. Interesting to see how many make the panel come January.
Dan O'Donoghue from Spa is the one fella I don't see there that would like to have seen. I wonder what happened there.

You must have a lot of free time on your hands…strange thing to make up. One of your line out is living on the other side of the world and the positions are all over the place.

Impressive win for Crokes. Should have easy run to club final with Corofin. 12/1 to win championship before the weekend. Put €100 on them.
