Jack O'Connor, tyrones paddy tally and the Clare hurling fella have Kerry very negative. Has jack been so scarred by Ulster teams he goes into a shell when he plays them? Time to change things up in the kingdom I think Kew (Galway) - Posts: 100 - 13/07/2024 21:02:56 2558809 Link 1 |

Not that it was his fault for the defeat today but what had happened to David Clifford since the final in 22. Seemed totally off against Derry and Armagh. Add in last years All Ireland Final and its hard to know if he'll fulfill his potential as a great. Great players perform on big days. He has all the cards but won't play the hand. Seems low in confidence and belief. Would a new manager or coach pull it out of him? Tir Conaill Abu (Donegal) - Posts: 1675 - 13/07/2024 22:20:05 2558834 Link 3 |
One All Ireland out of this golden generation isnot saying a lot. Jack L (None) - Posts: 3141 - 13/07/2024 22:30:35 2558836 Link 1 |
Confidence etc may be an issue, but often times the simplest solution is the correct one and I'm just not sure if he's as good as people think he is tbh. Comes across as a nice, easy going fella, and is no doubt a wonderful footballer, but he's yet to justify the hype imo. Even referring to the '22 final, he was never the man of the match in that game. Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 13/07/2024 22:40:46 2558839 Link 4 |

Kerry must have had the poorest support for a team in an All-Ireland semi- final . Both Laois and Down had much bigger support . cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1685 - 14/07/2024 01:19:11 2558864 Link 1 |
Maybe not but he wasn't far off 008 pts Kerry won so wasn't unexpected and Walsh injured and hadn't exactly liked up big hype either for last 2 years. We see in years ahead Gaaforlife2023 (Longford) - Posts: 520 - 14/07/2024 01:44:58 2558866 Link 0 |

He is that good trust me… and more. Something doesn't seem right with him, he's not playing football with a smile on his face anymore. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 811 - 14/07/2024 02:59:39 2558870 Link 0 |
It's not a golden generation team though imo. It's a bang average team with 2 or 3 very good players.

'Golden Generation', get a grip. It's more like a David Clifford +1, maybe 2.

Well, better than alleging "puke football", but, as ever, no respect for Ulster winners. You'd think Kerry had been obliterated or something. It was a close game, and a very good game. In reality, prior to Tally, Kerry were leaking soft goals all over the place, and were seen as a soft touch defensively. And on what planet is 1.16 "negative"? And Kerry if anything were insufficiently defensive v Tyrone in their last semi-final, giving Tyrone too much space at the back. As ever, when Kerry is beaten by an Ulster team, there are umpteen begrudging and red herring excuses for that, apart from the obvious one - the Ulster team was better on the day. Kerry lost for 2 reasons: (i) because Clifford was marked very closely; and (ii) Kerry didn't take Armagh seriously enough. Next time could be very different, but this was a good game between two teams who played very well, and Armagh deserved their win. Be under no illusions, if Dublin v Kerry had played out this exact same game, there'd be no chat about either team having systemic / structural problems, instead, it'd be talked about nationally as a "classic for the ages". Reality is Kerry has an excellent team that, unlike every other county, is expected to be at the top of their game every year! No other team is nearly as consistent as Kerry, year in, year out, but the Kerry lads are only human too - no team, no matter how excellent, can win every single game, and trying to suggest that a narrow loss in a cracking good game is primarily down to Kerry playing badly is as tedious as it is disrespectful. In reality, Armagh have lost more than their fair share of close games down the years, and it's about time they prevailed in one. I only wish Tyrone had a manager as "bad" as the excellent Jack O'Connor.

The hype has nothing to do with him in fairness. Nor is it an exaggeration to say he is one of the best players in country and has been since a minor. No one player out of 40 who play a part in any big game is going to be decisive or even on top form every day. Media driven adulation is very superficial and fickle. Many of those who engage in it are the first to stick the knife in when it suits. One in particular has been notorious, and notoriously nasty in this way for a long time. "He's yet to justify the hype" explain that one to us? For a second I thought you were talking about Shane Walsh because everything there pretty much sums him up. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 14/07/2024 09:47:24 2558900 Link 1 |
