A brilliant display by Limerick especially in the 2nd half when they just blew Kilkenny away… They are without doubt the greatest team ever to play the game…. I have the feeling that Kiely might be about to call it a day though….! ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3029 - 24/07/2023 10:13:24 2496471 Link 2 |
I agree entirely and you can add in a rock solid mindset...they don't do panic. Five in a row is very much on the cards. There is only one way they will be caught and that is by taking the early stages of the championship too casually. But on the home straight they will be virtually impossible to stop. Like for example this year they were beaten, narrowly I will admit by Clare...then beat Clare again narrowly in the Munster final. Then Clare almost beat Kilkenny....so on paper Clare Kilkenny and Limerick were within a point or two of each other, as were Galway. But now we were playing knock out hurling and the real Limerick emerged. They absorbed the first half intensity from Galway and Kilkenny BUT then literally switched on the after- burners both games over in 15 minutes.

Congratulations to Limerick on yesterday's historic 4 in a row achievement. But for a debatable wide ball in 2019, Limerick might be celebrating 6 in a row. Superb second half display, can you make it 5 in a row?. thelongridge (Offaly) - Posts: 1879 - 24/07/2023 11:54:35 2496493 Link 3 |
He probably won't even get an all star but an almost fit Cian Lynch is still the best hurler in the country based on what he showed in his last two games. When he plays Limerick operate at a different level. I thought he was a the clear motm over the course of the game yesterday but Casey was also a deserving winner and delighted for him. Massive congrats to all involved from Limerick Fitzy01 (Limerick) - Posts: 411 - 24/07/2023 12:54:43 2496513 Link 1 |
Beyond proud. Delighted for Peter Casey. Byrnes yesterday gave a masterclass as did Hayes. But cian lynch is the difference between a 1-3 point win and a 7-10 point win. He's a phenomenal hurler the likes we've never seen. A genius. A magician and a leader. daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 24/07/2023 13:36:31 2496531 Link 1 |
I actually though Kyle Hayes was the best player for ye yesterday.

Kyle is spectacular and more eye catching and possibly but Lynch is making constant contributions, he operates in areas where there is no space and manages to create some. He opens things up and starts things off, I just think he operates at a level different to most hurlers and has vision and ability to create space and keep the flow going that sets him at a higher level than most. For me he is that vital link that other teams simply do not have that knits attack and defence together in a manner that no other player can do.

Be hard to see anyone stepping away of their own accord with a 5 in a row in view.

I'm very happy for Peter Casey to get MoM last night but he wasn't my choice. I'd have picked Cian Lynch just ahead of Diarmuid Byrnes (who is my constant favourite Limerick hurler). I call him The Great Diarmuid Byrnes in my match monologues. Dealer (Limerick) - Posts: 837 - 24/07/2023 17:31:41 2496627 Link 0 |
I have to say the way I saw him celebrate the same thought entered my head. Please god he'll keep going

KK have beaten Clare in the last 2 semi finals who are rightly regarded as the 2nd best team in Munster, there's very little between the chasing pack but arguably KK are the head of it at the moment, if a team is going to emerge and challenge Limerick the way Tipp did with KK in 2009/10 I think it could be Cork who have appeared in 5 of the last 6 u20 finals winning 3 of the last 4.

for all the statisticians not one has noted that PRIOR to yesterdays historic win, in the 6 games played in the championship, Limerick were outscored points wise by 3..scoring 135 and conceding 138..unusual or a first i would think..the made up the balance by scoring 9 goals compared to conceding just 4...surprised not one has appeared to notice that stat..it would be unusual to be outscored points wise and be still in the final..i was delighted for Limerick yesterday.. Peter Casey proved what a dangerous forward he can be, would make you wonder if his talents are almost wasted playing the working role out the field, he is one of the most natural and gifted shooters on the team. Could Casey and Flanagan possibly swap roles at times, definitely one to consider for next year as soon as he was moved up top he went to town.
