I commented on here at that time that the Limerick heads had dropped like I never seen before. The legs seemed to have gone and it wasnt like the Munster final against Tipp were Tipp seemed to nearly have the game won at HT but Limerick were still hurling. I genuinely thought they were gone. i was wrong and not for the first or last time but I'd say as a Limerick person you must have been worried in those few mins? They just keep answering every question tho tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 14/06/2023 13:58:00 2486431 Link 0 |
Ya thats exactly what I was trying to say. Its no coincidence how they come back or close out games. Theyre so well coached.

Limerick lost 2 very important defenders with 15 minutes left also. I'm not saying that the lads that came in played poorly but David Fitzgerald didn't get a puck of a ball off Kyle hayes until hannon went off injured. The most satisfying part of Sunday for me was Adam English Cathal o Neill and Colin Coughlin all played big parts in Limerick seeing out the win. 3 lads just out of u20s and they were the ones that were called on. Cian Lynch is also chomping at the bit I believe but they resisted in what would have been a very tempting change with him. They really want to have him right for croke park. Again I thought kiely got that right. daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 14/06/2023 14:31:26 2486441 Link 0 |
The balancing of the books is often a term that is used for referees in their decision making and I think this is what influenced the ref in the final 20 seconds. The time was at 74.10 when WOD hit the last wide so on that puck out the whistle should have been blown. The ref was boo'd off the pitch by the Limerick end at half time and possibly would have chatted with his linesmen and umpires and realised he had got a few decisions wrong that favoured Clare. I think he possibly thought that giving a free to Clare at the end would have compounded the situation. The pitch invasion did not help and possibly led to him playing that extra bit of time to justify the steward getting everyone off the pitch. In Liam Gordon's defence for the last 2 potential frees the ball had gone away from Tony Kelly when Peter Casey collided with him so possible he did not see this. For the second incident I think he possibly felt that the Clare player went to ground quite easily and did not attempt to break the tackle. journeyman (Limerick) - Posts: 141 - 14/06/2023 15:33:05 2486461 Link 0 |
Ya i posted on Davy Fitxz not getting a sniff til Hayes went to 6. I seen in a few places Coughlan done well but we will agree to differ on that one. Personally I thought he was well off the pace... I thought the others were excellent though. I thought Hayes was great at 6 but possibly leaves more space behind him than Hannon does... He does like he will end up at 6 eventually tho from that cameo anyway

Add to this the fact that a Clare back could have been black carded and a penalty given for the Hegarty incident.

What do you think of the yellow card Gearoid Hegarty got? Did the Clareman or two deserve the same or more? Pundits pretending not to notice in case they upset Croke Park.

There hasnt been a word about the dive that got Hegarty booked. Arron Fitzgerald, Rory Hayes, Tony Kelly and now Hogan. How has it not been pointed out yet?

Yes. Supposed he gave the free how does that look. Clare tied it up in extra- extra time that there was no reason for and Limerick did not contribute to in any way. From the time the puck out was taken to the obvious free 10 to 15 seconds. What was he at? A mistake he won't make again. Don't get me wrong I would not begrudge Clare success and in fairness to them in general are looking else where in their genuine disappointment. They are still in the championship and anyone who might think they are a pusher over better think again. I don't think anyone will. Up the Banner and the Treaty keep chugging along. Don't write of the West either or the boys In the East. I think I covered everyone.

I wish players would stop doing this. I don't care if it is Waterford, Clare, Limerick and everyone else. It is a blight on our games. Very easily fix. Bring in an unsportsman like booking (yellow). Even if one or two are subjective players will think twice before risking it. After all the GAA made throwing the ball a pet call and now seems off the books, they can make this the flavour of the day also.

Not what got him booked and you know full well what got him booked. It was harmless but no dive got him booked.

4 minutes injury time went up on the board so once the 4 mins had past the ref should have blown.

4 mins means at least 4 mins, ref is entitled to play on further if he wants and add in possible stoppages during injury time too.

Anyone who saw Kyle Hayes play in the 2017 U21 All Ireland final will know what he can do there. He is the most likely successor to Hannon in that position but we will then need someone to step up and make the wing back spot theirs.
