Looks for now you could be right with o neill down to start and Cian on the bench. My guess would be there might be one change on each team before throw in.

I'm uncertain going into this match as to the outcome. I'm hoping that Limerick are gaining momentum and improving incrementally but Clare must be the hungrier team. Limerick have their eye on the All Ireland and Munster is just a step but I think that Clare are not planning beyond Munster or at least not to the same extant. Really hoping we come through this with a win..I feel a lot comes down to whether cleary is playing or not.if he doesn't probably means Dave Mc to full back and a change at half back..this could give hego more freedom..obviously something not right with Cian because he would be a definite starter..hope we go a bit more direct and run at their full back line,I can also see them trying to exploit our full back line..has the makings at a great game but one thing for both teams will be discipline..after the last few weeks a head high challenge could change the whole game..come on limerick.. I agree with your thoughts on discipline. It's got to the stage where you would nearly feel victimised if you got a red now for a high tackle with the amount of players let away with it this season so far. Cleary named to start but he may or may not. The rumours for the past couple of weeks in Clare were the injury was not as bad so there was a strong feeling he would start. For Clare, we need our lads on song full stop. If both teams play to their maximum, I think Limerick win. To give us any chance we have to play to 100%. It promises to be a cracker. There is a real feeling of knockout about this one even though you could argue it's a bonus game. Although I am sure Limerick really want to do 5 in a row, I feel we need this more. Win this, and it could be the catalyst we need for All Ireland contention. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2679 - 09/06/2023 14:11:35 2485125 Link 0 |
Limerick's games so far in scores: 19, 22, 25, 28 slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 09/06/2023 14:40:14 2485135 Link 0 |
I thought it was fairly evident that the reason for playing in Croker would be capacity, not that it is easier to get to :-)

Hopefully Umpires & Referee will keep an eye on full back lines holding the forwards preventing runs & Exciting pieces of play! OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 718 - 09/06/2023 17:22:48 2485157 Link 1 |
I meant hurling All-Ireland in a row. Even if not achieved the present Limerick team have brought a breath of fresh air to hurling that could do with many more teams fighting for honours. All those non elite counties keeping the sport going deserve great credit as developing hurling skills is a challenge. Limerick are always in the top group but now have shown they can be consistent with the big three. That should be inspiration to all others.

Absolutely. Nothing to stand in the way of making the big 3 a 20th century thing. Limerick are possibly the team to inspire the clares, Waterfords, wexfords, Galways, Dublin etc to show that with the correct foundations, structures, resources, mindset that competing at the highest level is not just aspirational but inevitable. The sport of hurling is really in a golden age and will continue to be in my opinion for the next 10 years. daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 09/06/2023 23:00:56 2485202 Link 1 |
No probably not but then there is only 1 player from any other county with 10 celtic crosses this millennium either.

I think you are right, its a fantastic sport and at the heart of it is what Limerick have brought to modern game. Inspirational stuff.

Great result today and completing 5 in a row is unbelievable. Gillane was unmarkable today and gave a real answer to the Clare crowd with their disgusting chants and booing, well done Aaron class. Whinging about the free at the end is a bit rich out of Clare fans, maybe all the diving earlier in the championship caught up with them. Watching Canning on Sunday game criticising Hegarty for a booking after 3 times being fouled and a knock to the head shows the anti Limerick media are getting ridiculous. updwell (Limerick) - Posts: 847 - 11/06/2023 19:45:24 2485608 Link 1 |
Thrilled with the result yesterday. Absolutely delighted that we're 5 times Munster champions. Fantastic performances from particularly Quaid, Nash and Gillane who I thought got great support from Flanagan inside despite the pulling and dragging from the Clare full back line. Any word on Hannon. Is he carrying an injury all year? I thought Hayes done very well at 6 but I thought Coughlan was miles off the pace. I dont think Davy Fitz touched the ball until Hannon went off and at one point near the end he looked like he could drag Clare over the line on his own. I also thought Dan M looked very slow and cumbersone at full back on a number of occasions in the second half and he also seemed more exposed when Hannon went off. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 12/06/2023 15:15:34 2485886 Link 0 |
Hmm.. a golden age with Limerick winning all before them and Kiely winning 10 or 12 finals in a row?! Easy for you to say! Ah no, it is remarkable what they have done. Who could have predicted it back in 2017 and most 0f 2018. For a team coming through like that to be so consistent is remarkable tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 12/06/2023 16:53:15 2485975 Link 0 |
Great win and I think JK won the tactical battle. Clare should have played a covering defender in front of Gillane and cut out the space and that was ultimately the difference between the 2 teams with Gillane scoring 1-3 from play but also won a load of frees. Starting David Reidy was also a master stroke as he got on a lot of ball in the second half and pulled John Conlan out the field leaving the Clare full line badly exposed. Also Cathal O'Neill made a huge impact off the bench scoring 2 vital points and is possible a better game finisher than starter. The 4 week break is coming at a good time and hopefully Cian Lynch will be 100% for the semi final. Of all the Munster Championships this was definitely the hardest won and ultimately the sweetest. journeyman (Limerick) - Posts: 141 - 13/06/2023 11:10:49 2486123 Link 0 |
Some of these commentators just seem to have agendas of their own. How come there was no criticism of the KK player for dangerous tackle on a Galway player in the Round Robin game v KK and the carry on of different KK and CK players in the League Semi.

I really don't think there is any agenda, Limerick's discipline was really poor at times against Waterford and this was discussed afterwards, this wasn't the case in any of the 4 subsequent games so hasn't been a talking point since. Cork u20s got the same coverage last week after a few poor incidents in the AI final.

You've won all around ye for years. A successful team like that gets scrutinised 100 times more than the rest especially in the modern world so you may get used to it! Also the pundits cant really dream up these talking points if there was no incident. Limerick have got away with plenty too so I dont see how you can complain much. Even Gillane admitted as much in an interview after last years AI

I think everyone agrees Lohan should have made a change on Gillane but I think Clare have now shown to everyone that pushing up on Limerick is the only way to beat them. Nash and Byrnes have huge influences on Limericks play so if you can pin them back youre better off I think. A sweeper or someone sitting may lead to other problems even if you have Gillane running riot inside. Clare could have won that game if they didnt miss so much so a drastic change like leaving Conlon or someone else on the D may not have been a great idea - even if that sounds mad considering Gillanes impact.
