David Brady had left Ratoath of his own accord, not pushed, sacked or otherwise, he was unable to commit for the year ahead, any other version of events is just simply untrue. Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3743 - 21/12/2022 15:50:08 2450905 Link 11 |
Any sign of the remaining clubs still vacant filling their managerial positions? BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 997 - 03/01/2023 10:10:19 2450924 Link 0 |
Trevor Bannon is on his own now with the bracks after the Flanagan fiasco

What was the fiasco? I doubt he was the first manager to change his mind last minute on a club. It was more of a social media fiasco really.

It wasn't last minute - he had already started with the Bracks! Only four days in the job when he left for a better offer. There wasn't enough time for him to decide that it wasn't going to work out for footballing reasons etc.

Of course it was a fiasco... one thing changing you mind late on if you have not started. But once you've met the players and laid out your plans for the year well then you are committed to that team and the right thing to do would be honor that commitment .

Honour that committment? Did he break a contract or something. Bigger, better club came for him. So what

Who said anything about breaking a contract ? Honoring a commitment and breaking a contract are 2 completely different things. He broke no rules whatsoever with what he did.. but that doesn't mean it wasn't the wrong thing to do. Someone with principles would honor the commitment he had made to a club particularly after meeting the players to lay out the plan for next year. You can dress it up any way you want but fact is it was a ****** thing to do and has certainly tarnished his reputation . Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1000 - 05/01/2023 09:41:34 2451186 Link 0 |
I can only guess with a lot of managers in gaa they do not sign contracts (I could be wrong) they meet the club committee and agree terms so it's really a man's word in this case and if a man hasn't his word he has very little imo

Stop. These managers have no loyalty to anybody or any club. It's a merry-go-round. He met the players, he was in the role a few days. He laid out his plans, and then he left. I do not see the big deal. It sets Ballinabrackey back as they have to go looking again, but if you are searching for an outside man to coach your team, it always carries risks. Pat Flanagan has been around the block - i don't think this has tarnished his reputation. He'll get another club no problem when he wants

If you dont see the big deal after meeting the players and laying out plans for the year and then ditching these players after giving your word to the ballinabracky board then that says something more about you , it has of course tarnished his reputation . . Do you have to have a cut off point after agreeing to terms ?? is 7 days enough? 2 weeks?? What if someone came in and doubled Sarsfields offer two days later?? How much is enough? What price is your word? I would of held Pat in a very high regard , yes he may of gone to a few different clubs , Ive no problem with that but to turn around after a few days in the job and meeting players and outlining plans for the year after giving his word . . well doesn't say much lagoreX (Meath) - Posts: 222 - 06/01/2023 13:13:48 2451339 Link 2 |
He has no integrity as a man to do what he done, the Bracks were right to call him out and he has made an ass of himself. Really poor decision on his part and he will be remembered for being loyal to only €€€, i think the Bracks could be better off in more ways than one after this.

Can anyone tell what Pat Flanagan has ever won? I know he managed Offaly and Westmeath but that's not particularly impressive. Has he won Leinster club titles for example? Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 06/01/2023 15:28:37 2451370 Link 6 |
Managed Pearses to two Roscommon senior football championships and a first Connacht club title last January.

Not so sure about that but one thing is certain. All the rumours of Kevin Reilly taking over were correct. Seems to be a delay on the inevitable in Ratoath being made public. David Brady leaving and Kevin Reilly joining were in the rumour Mill long before their announcements.

I think the difference between the Pat Flanagan situation and Kevin Reilly is that Kevin managed the message better and ensured that a time gap was left after leaving Trim before the announcement was made. stillaroyal (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 08/01/2023 13:49:27 2451510 Link 1 |
Pat Flanagan did nothing wrong. It is normal for people on the luck out to get a job offer and then a better one. Happens all the time. Job loyalty is a fairytale that nobody should swallow. Havent we all had a boss who gave great speeches about the need for us to show loyalty to the firm ,Then scarper as soon as he got something better.
