Replying To Past hurler:  "Shane O Brien who managed Oulart recently is the Dublin under 20 hurling manager so it looks like he has taken Rory in after the Under 20 Wexford gig didn't go ahead for Rory.

Good experience for Rory to get in another county."
Looks like you answered my question two minutes before I even typed it! :)

Hopefully the experience will help St Peters College teams too!

Yes that is the case apparently, so a guy who coached our own 20s for the last 2 years and was told he had the job as manager of this years crop a few weeks ago is now set to coach one of our biggest rivals, a county we have lost to 2 years in a row at senior level now in championship. ...hard to put a positive spin on that. We have little enough good people looking to coach or manage our county teams and now we've lost one of those to a rival.

But they wanted someone who has trained a club at Inter A level in Wexford for 2 years to a semi final and a q final over an inter county coach who trained a team who drew and lost a Munster final by a point. Not to mention the inexperience of a man who coached an u-15 development squad over men involved in several inter county set ups. Won't even mention Mitch. Its farcical.

What did you want him to do? Hang out with Mick and Patter for a year or 2 watching games from the sidelines? I've never met the lad but I'm sure he has the ambition to become the best manager he can be. Working with Shane O'Brien up in Dublin will have to stand to him. It will be great experience.
I'm sure he will be back applying for Wexford jobs when they are available again. He comes from one of the proudest Wexford hurling families in the county.

Who was on the committee who approved who went forwards for ratification? Was it the same committee who looked at the Senior applicants?

There are obviously a few on here who are related to Rory!! He is being very highly rated considering his record as a manager which is zero experience apart from Peters which tbh is very poor. From talking to parents of players in Peters and 20s Rory is a good coach but last year david Franks was brought in above him and the standards improved straight away. Again all hear say but rory was apparently given every chance to be involved with this yaesr 20s and said he only wanted to do it if he was the manager and the head coach could come every second week. he is now working in the backroom of a competing team under a manager he worked with in oulart . Hard to know what else he will learn from shane o brien that he doesn`t know already.

You're taking me up wrong Viking , the blame isn't with Jacob at all, I wish him well. The problem i am referring to is why he was let go from this county at all, he was interested in taking the role with the 20s and had was the preffered candidate- all that is a matter of fact. Questions are still be answered as to what happened after that because we can all be assured that he would much rather be involved with his native county than anyone else. There is a narrative out there that he "walked away" from the offer of the 20s job , this is untrue as a lot of things happened which lead him with no option but to do to that. We need everyone of that calibre working in Wexford and that's the bottom line.

He walked away as he was asked to add one more person to his backroom team- that there wasn't enough on it. Yet the incoming management ticket has less on theirs. And the manager is as old school and behind tactically as you will get. We all know the real reason- they didn't want 3 Oulart men over minor, u-20 and senior. It will be to the detriment of Wexford hurling.

Shane likely will have some different methods and ideas to Keith. Rory will see some things that might work with a group of u20s that Keith never tried. Everyone will have different ideas. Experience is Experience. The more you do of anything, especially something that's forever continuously evolving, not only do you have a greater knowledge of what works and doesn't currently, and what worked in the past, but from having that knowledge you are better equipped to come up with completely new ideas and methods in the future.

I agree it looks bad. Was it the same selection committee who reviewed, then recommended for ratification, the Senior candidates? What were the guidelines/parameters they were instructed to work under? Or were they given a free reign? As I said it looks bad, but being as we don't know anything about the process its very hard to start apportioning blame.
At the end of the day we didn't have hugely experienced, or more importantly successful, managers and management teams applying for our underage jobs. You could actually maybe extend that to our Senior management. Of course everyone who has been successful started having success somewhere, and hopefully that will be true for our minors, u20s and Seniors management teams in the coming years. But it's all a big leap in the dark tbh.

Did the County board even ratify the u20 manager after? Or other roles? From memory didn't see anything official about Minor football either.

Haven't seen any update from the County board or bulletin like they have done previously.

Are they a bit wary of a bit of flak? Seems to be less updates from County board meetings.

Think so too. Fair play to you for thinking that way I'm surprised tbh.

There was crossover between the selection committees for U20 and senior, but they weren't exactly the same.

Selection committee for U20 was basically the Hurling Advisory Committee (HAC), and I've put up the names here before - Adrian Fenlon, Doc O'Connor, Liam Griffin and Niall Williams. County Chairman might also have been involved - am not sure.

Selection committee for senior was the HAC plus some others - County Chairman, County Secretary, and two club delegates from the floor of a County Board meeting. Not to disrespect any of the others, but would expect that the HAC people were still the main ones guiding the process.

Agree completely, that is the real reason and it is illogical. The best man or men should get the job regardless of where they are from. I am not from Oulart or related to the Jacobs as someone suggested here but you'd want to be after living under a rock or just blind to the facts if anyone is arguing the best management team available or who applied got tte 20s job. Keith Rossiter got the senior job based more or less entirely on the job he did with the 20s and now there is no one left of that set up at 20s level despite the fact that 3 of them were looking to go back(jacob, j Kearns and A Ronan). Get your head around that.. makes 0 sense but the best of luck to them and the best of luck to Jacob in the Dublin.

TBH it looked suspicious that your account only appeared here when this situation on the u20s arose.

The bands in the username would suggest someone of a certain age also ;-)

Well said. I do feel it's very bad form on Rorys part ti jump ship to dublin, i would even go as far as to suggest he's throwing the toys out of the pram here. He has a very modest coaching record to say the least not too Mention his coaching ticket including a head coach only willing to commit part time. I feel Rory has turned his back on a group of players he has worked with by assisting a direct rival and this could well do his chances of future wexford jobs more harm than good. Just look what has happened with Joe fortune? I feel Rory should of built his cv and experience by taking on an adult team within wexford. There is no positive spin to this. I also feel aidan o connors appointment and backroom team is very underwhelming and I would of been in favour of the ticket proposed by mick laffan as he has been doing excellent work both in underage and adult hurling in barntown/clongeen and varies underage squads but it wasn't to be.

He didn't coach our under 20s by the way, David Frank's was the lead coach because clearly keith felt Rory wasn't enough. Considering his poor record with st Peters this ' highly rated' stuff is questionable to say the least
