U20 The backroom team is not finalised yet so how do you know it's a mistake?"]There seems to be a couple of jobs outstanding across both codes in terms of county teams that haven't been ratified yet.

This! If I was a good player who could play both, my options are 1. Play with the hurlers where a good year could win a Leinster Title (e.g. 2019) 2. Play with the footballers where a good year will mean beating a few other also-rans, getting hammered by Dublin and playing in the Tailteann Cup. What am I picking? Alot of the best footballers who have played with Wexford were good hurlers also. They preferred Football though.

Of course they did. But it was their choice. And so it should be. If a footballer throws his lot with the hurlers and the other way around, its not the manager stealing the player as it is painted. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1259 - 16/11/2023 21:09:49 2513420 Link 0 |

One KK man who has only ever been involved with u-15's up there and a Wex man who has trained Monageer as far as a q-final and a s-final in successive years. It wouldn't excite me in comparison to what Jacob had.

Jacko at best flatters to decieve, infuriating to watch...I don't think D Reck is at his best at 6. Our half back line has been weak the last couple of years and Rossi will have to change that, especially if Paudie Foley prefers Coogee to Crossabeg. The 2 x Recks in the corner with Ryan at 3 and that's a rock solid full back line. Damien very comfortable taking the short pick outs as is Ryan. I don't see an obvious 6 so might have to try something like moving Chin back there, worked for Clare with Conlan. Devitt for me is too loose in the corner but has the hurling for the half back line. MoH over his injuries is still one of our best defenders too. Eoin Whelan I don't think will be too far off next year either, could free up Ryan to play at 6. Big problems at midfield with no physical presence in any option. All the forwards including RoC have it all to prove next year. But I think Rossi can get a tune out of them, bit of tough love required for a few of those. Loads of ability there but past time they started proving it consistently. No player would make the decision lightly and will turn to different people for advice however neither do I see a problem with a manager having an honest conversation with a player about their potential role. No hurling manager is promising Leinster or All Ireland titles either given our track record and what players do know is that the cost of failure in hurling comes with a much bigger price.

A player can decide what he wants to play but that is where any player with any ambition whatsoever of doing anything wants to measure themselves. Against top players, in top leagues. Who cares if the cost of failure is high. The cost of failure is high because its the top level. No hiding place, no second chances, nothing. But its a world apart from playing a game at a lower level just to avoid that scrutiny. Would defenders who played Barcelona in their pomp have not wanted to play because they were going against Messi? No, they wanted that test. That is what makes top players. Rubbish, if playing GAA was only about testing oneself against the best we would allow free transfers between clubs and counties. There are huge mental health issues in the GAA intercounty scene and for an amateur sport that is shocking. Players already make huge sacrifices for what? certainly not the millions that the Barcelona players got for playing for their club. Lads thinking that the GAA players should have the same mentality as professional sports people are exactly what is causing the mental health issues. What drives a GAA player to play for his club or county is very different to waht drives your Barcelona player.

Numbers wise is there more backroom people involved? We haven't made a Leinster final final for a couple of years so that is far from acceptable. Second Question does the county board pick backroom team?? Like selectors etc. The only reason I know about the 20s is because I work with a lad involved who did tell me that the Ticket is not finalised yet. I do like the idea of a 4 time All- Ireland winner running a set of backs, adding a bit of steel, tricks of the trade and an ocean of info for these young lads. This cannot be understated. Mitch Jordan running a forward unit, and Wexford have some quality there. Mitch also knows his way around the forward line. From what he said Ronan O Broin comes with a top class pedigree and very sought after. Colm Breen PE in Kilmuckridge, for a young lad has built up a decent C/V, very progressive in-the way of settling to a pattern of play that suits this bunch. Aidan is well known and key here is he had them at minor and just fell short inches, man management is his forte As I said earlier ticket is not closed but Paul Morris and Shaun Murphy will be involved at certain stages which is some boost. They will be mentoring players individually and also looking at defence and offense and see how they stack up against other teams.Michael Laffan would certainly should be one for future, he has a wonderful record and should be given chance at underage. Don't know the story Of Rory only what was said here that his coach was only available every second week. From what this guy was telling me CB then adds the Wexford GAA in-house S & C and a set of physios, which is a good thing. Also a Psychiatrist is no harm. thinking on backroom team , a lot of work goes into it and FairPlay to lads who commit and wish them best of luck for the year coming. Michael, Aidan and Keith. All out today in Ferns, you gotta realise the effort put in by everyone and. It only Amateur.

He is an excellent coach and has won Leinster and AI titles with Wexford teams. Richie Flynn has apparently done very well with Westmeaths Senior Hurlers the last 2 years under Joe Fortune. Roger Ennis is I think a St James man who has brought Horeswoods hurlers from Junior to Intermediate and kept them there this year despite them missing a few important players travelling.

On the night we ratify Aidan O Connor and his team for the U20s Job a certain Rory Jacob is getting ready to Coach the Dublin U20s.. Anyone else hear that? Paull (Wexford) - Posts: 187 - 21/11/2023 17:53:41 2514078 Link 0 |
I didn't tbh. But he's obviously wanting to stay involved at intercounty level, so another county is his only option for next year now.

Shane O Brien who managed Oulart recently is the Dublin under 20 hurling manager so it looks like he has taken Rory in after the Under 20 Wexford gig didn't go ahead for Rory. Good experience for Rory to get in another county. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 806 - 22/11/2023 13:34:32 2514166 Link 0 |
