Replying To Viking66:  "Jack Redmond is unlikely to be in the team. He was struggling at u20 this year. Think Byrne Dunbar definitely, and Cian Byrne maybe, would be more likely to be starting. Not sure about Conor Foley as a back either. Longterm he might suit midfield better."
Redmond didn't Hurl well at all for the 20s last year but he was superb for a very poor rathnure team, he hit 1_15 from play in games v ferns and crossabeg last year and was excellent in all there games. I would rate him as an excellent prospect overall ,strong chap aswell. Cian Byrne is probably the most exciting of that group as he has a special x factor but as correctly stated needs to bulk up physically and mature a bit. Corey Byrne is another exciting talent but needs to get more consistent but he is quality. Shame o hagan has the physical attributes that are transferable and is a good chap to win his own ball which is a trait we've lacked for years. I would expect this 4 plus tucker and cathal Doyle to feature heavily during the Walsh Cup and league. Its time for lads like hearn, flood, lawlor to really push on now.

We need to start hurting teams alot more but need a better structured defense. Dee has Been a wonderful servant but he hasn't got the legs to play midfield and start games anymore. What a superb player to bring on with 20 mins to go to get us across the line. We need improved displays from Ryan and mc Donald, both at there peak now and its approaching now or never time for them. I can't see jacko getting near a starting spot next year, far too hot and cold and doesn't impact games near enough for a chap of his size and ability in my opinion. Oisin foley was poor for crossabeg this year but think he may be sufferering and injury.

Replying To Doylerwex:  "I think Jack o Connor, Higgins and Banville will still be involved.

Also feel seamie o hagan will start to be introduced"
Not a bad effort to be fair. I do expect niall Murphy to force he's way onto the starting team this year with devitt possibly going to wing back or midfield. We have the makings of a strong team. I don't think banville will make it to be honest ,not abrasive or aggressive enough but perhaps rossi can bring that out.

Jacko is a very frustrating player to watch. He's big and strong, good fielder, good striker, extremely skillful, but he only seems to want it half the time.

I've enjoyed watching Oisín for wexford. I think he's contribution has been very good. He scores from play consistently and the quality of goals has been top drawer.

If we can keep our panel fit and add 2 or 3 more players we could have a great year.

Lawlor
S Reck
Jippo
Devitt
Donohue
D reck
C foley
K foley
R lawlor
Jack
Chin
Oisín
Roc
Mac
Byrne Dunbar

In my view, that's the pick of what we have for starting 15

Lawlor and Jack's spot are up for grabs if somebody can step up.

You still have Dwyer, Dunbar, dee to strengthen the bench.

Beyond that we'd be looking to bring on more of the under 20s.

Maybe guiney will flee back to rathnure?

Replying To Past hurler:  "I know he is a Kilkenny man, but Aaron Duggan is a better goalie than Lawlor or Fanning.

Whether he gets called into the panel or actually wants to wear the Wexford jersey is a different matter altogether."
He is in according to the People Paper. I think he's a great prospect too.

Replying To cragask1234:  "Don't think you can blame the keeper for us coinciding goals last year ,our defensive set up waa far too loose . You could have 2 keepers and they wouldn't of saved eoin codys shot"
Some of the goals we conceded were savable. More importantly neither of the keepers were fast or accurate enough with shorter puckouts. We will need the option of a short game with the players we have. It was badly missed last year, especially when Chin wasn't playing.

Oisin Foley had to get painkilling injections earlier this year apparently. Hopefully he will be better come next year. Hard to know what to make of Jacko tbh. As you say he's huge, and has skill to burn. If he could up the speed and intensity he would be one of our best players. But too often he let's games pass him by.

I'd have Mcguckin wingback instead of Foley. I take it you are only talking about lads who will be there this year that were there last year. And assuming Mogie is retiring. Dunbar, Dwyer, Hearne would be ahead of Jacko purely because they will work harder. If Mogie doesn't retire I'd have him starting instead of the 4 of them. Still not sure about James Lawlor. Other than that I agree with your choices.
The big hope though would be some new lads putting their hand up. Some of the u20s from last year, and/or Tucker, Clancy, Cathal Doyle, etc. And maybe Aaron Duggan, or 1 of the other keepers.

You know its testament to how disappointing last year was. I actually forgot loads of players.

David Clarke is a very good prospect too. He was excellent on chin when they played us in the park.

You're right about mcgukian.

I actually forgot Hearne and he's a great worker.

Forgot flood too and we're related!

I heard mogie is done but heard the same last year so we won't know for sure until the games begin.

A panel of 60 met last weekend apparently.

They're in small groups doing gym work in the ferrycarrig most evenings

Few interesting selections Doyler,I certainly wouldn't be starting jacko, donoghue or Kevin foley if I was to pick our best 15.

On the topic of puck outs and developing a short game. Again I'll say there's 2 elements to that. Firstly we need a keeper comfortable, confident and consistent enough to go short = fanning isint any of the above. Secondly we need defenders who are comfortable receiving the ball and who make consistently good decisions once received. Its a 2 part process.

Replying To Viking66:  "I also think we will need a keeper who is quick and accurate with his puckouts. Not sure who that man is tbh. Seamie O'Hagan would need to be a better finisher than he has shown so far to make it at Senior intercounty also. Jacko, Higgins, and Banville will definitely be involved, as will Niall Murphy, Joe O'Connor, Conor Hearne and Tucker Kinsella. Not sure about Carley yet. There will be lads involved in the trials who will no doubt put their hand up also when the trials start. Hopefully some of the Gorey contingent will commit whenever their club campaign concludes.
It's way too early to speculate who might be in the team come Walsh Cup."
Have heard there's a panel of lads training already, for the last two weeks which includes a number of new faces. Not entirely sure of who's involved but the couple of names I have heard are miles off inter-county hurling imo. Few of last years non-regulars are back too. I hope young Doyle from your club is involved but I think you previously said he was going away!

Dee O'Keefe's performance v Kilkenny was out of this world, I don't know why anybody would want to retire him.
Wexford need everybody even the veterans. Even Mark Fanning in my opinion. I don't think the other goalkeepers are any better in all honesty.

Will there be a crowd tomorrow? Gorey 9/4 to win kk 2/5. Shocking odds on the wexford champions.

I have another question is there many wexford people on here who go to games based in Dublin.

Any word on whether A.J. Redmond or Cian Molloy will be on the panel? You'd hope that with most of the 2022-2023 U20 backroom team making their way on to the Senior backroom team that they'd be open to joining the squad

Doubt it happens but Jack Cullen is another who would likely start if he wanted to be on the panel

Is Paudie Foley definitely gone for 2023?

Flood is injured currently. Clarke is travelling next year. The 60 is going to be whittled down at the end of the month. Senior players aren't back yet.

None of the Gorey lads involved yet as they are still with the club. Hopefully Molloys and Cullen will commit.
