Think you are doing a dis service to all refs and officials all over the country..hawk eye was meant to help umpires however in the past few weeks it has been dire, not an umpires fault..I believe it's not being used for hurling final so it'll be interesting to see if any mistakes will be made.it wasn't used in Kerry/Dublin match and not one questionable decision..I've also noticed that a lot of umpires this year are at the younger side of things..I'm not an official but I have done umpiring,I never went out to make a mistake but there were incidents where I was wrong..incidents happen so fast in hurling that mistakes are definitely going to be made.. Galway Chairman in the paper today saying Galway wouldn't take to the field until the score was rectified at HT WunderBar (Galway) - Posts: 290 - 13/07/2022 14:15:12 2431878 Link 0 |
So the refs were fine with disallowing the score. They should get extra training to override Hawkeye errors. maroondiesel (Mayo) - Posts: 1218 - 13/07/2022 14:43:55 2431886 Link 0 |
Its not widely known but they are not helped by the training they receive, the support they receive or how fans and players and coaches treat them. care to show exactly how its widely known GAA offcials are the worst in the country? Now umpires for all inter county games and top club games should be qualified officials KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3674 - 13/07/2022 15:05:32 2431889 Link 0 |
Would it not be possible to use chipped sliotars & footballs and similar to goal line technology in soccer it would notify the ref of the score on his watch. biro (Limerick) - Posts: 12 - 13/07/2022 15:56:13 2431908 Link 0 |
Ah come on, get real. In the last five minutes, when that game was there for the taking, a man who was a Christy Ring Cup Player, a few years ago, steeped forward and scored three great points from play and had to be fouled to stop him scoring another. By contrast. in that same period much more established Galway players, had chances to convert far better chances and did not do it. I would refer you to a remark quoted by Liam Griffin in '96 'Winners are Winners and Losers make excuses'. Always blaming the Referee will get people nowhere.

Ignore the odd moaner. Nobody in Galway is fuming over any 'fiasco' from the hurling semi final. We gave it a right good shot, the players put in some effort, but a lack of accuracy cost us in the end. It was definitely a missed opportunity, but Limerick got the job done at the most crucial stage. I'm very interested to see how Sunday's final pans out. The statement issued which stated that the Hawk Eye problems were confined to the Hill 16 end is totally false. Conor Glass scored a point at the Davin Stand end which was ruled a Nil, the video has been going around, it was also obvious at the time. Why are we not pointing out the fact the statement issued is totally false. Colm O Rourke hit the nail on the head when he said people today are programmed to not question anything. Also, every system is hackable, competent umpires and get on with the games please GAAK (Derry) - Posts: 20 - 14/07/2022 12:50:24 2432041 Link 0 |
LOL Colm O'Rourke thinks people today are programmed to question nothing. Does he not remember what Ireland of the 70's/80's was like? I think people today question everything. Turn on Twitter during a match. Maybe people trust tech more than humans because they think it is infallible. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1259 - 14/07/2022 14:17:22 2432062 Link 0 |
I think you are agreeing with me? People think technology is infallable. Also i was around for the 70s/80s, if someone had told the president of our organisation he was not allowed to touch the cup when presenting it we all would have laughed and told them to catch themselves on

the thread is about Hawkeye, nothing about impact subs, let us moan in peace

Agree, they issued a false statement saying Hawk Eye problems were confined to the Hill 16 end, Complete False Statement, see Conor glass point into the Davin Stand end, pointed out by Galway posters btw, the video is doing the rounds, clearly a point but ruled a Nil, why is no one in GAA hierarchy not saying this statement is false GAAK (Derry) - Posts: 20 - 14/07/2022 15:31:40 2432087 Link 0 |
That's the spirit WPP. And yes indeed I think the vast majority of Galway supporters feel like you do. Best of wishes to the Hurling team in the Final. It would be great to see a LK/GY double.

What is really important here is that every match involving Wicklow and Hawkeye is reviewed, for any possible injustices. sponger (Wicklow) - Posts: 2913 - 14/07/2022 15:59:56 2432100 Link 1 |
I will tell you how infallible technology is. 26 million detection and one miss that turned out to be the component had been accidentally carried around the center. This in a much more difficult application than detecting something going between two fixed points. This application is as easy about as peeing down a pump. Why then? Poor technology to begin with. Programmer skill with set up?

I was definitely surprised the year Wicklow got promoted to Division 3. Definitely makes you wonder all right. carlovia (None) - Posts: 1525 - 14/07/2022 18:08:00 2432117 Link 0 |
Not really. I think Colm O'Rourke is the sort of individual who believes summers were warmer years ago. The 70's and 80's I grew up in is not one I would want for my young lads. I don't think people questioned things more back then. In fact, people were dictated to by authorities who shouldn't have had such power. People do think technology is infallible, I agree with you on that count for sure. I do wonder if the GAA should be testing HawkEye the day of big games? If a seagull sat on the camera, would it skew the system and mean it might not work right? ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1259 - 15/07/2022 18:21:22 2432281 Link 0 |
The people who don't want technology to determine scores need to go away and hide in the reeds before anyone realize how stupid they are. A game like today decided by an incorrect call?
